At approximately 10am this morning, June 5th, 2026, the East Putnam Fire Department along with Putnam EMS and the Connecticut State Police Troop D were dispatched to the intersection of Providence Pike (rt 44) and East Putnam Road for a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Crews arrived to find two vehicles with moderate front end damage located on both sides of RT 44. All occupants were out of the vehicles and reported no/minor injuries. Two patients were ultimately transported to Day Kimball Hospital by Putnam EMS with suspected minor injuries.

Earlier this week, approximately 30 members from the East Putnam Fire Department, Putnam Fire Department, and Putnam EMS participated in our monthly town-wide training at International Paper on Park Road.

Site familiarization tours are an important part of our training program. Every commercial and industrial facility in our district is unique, and understanding building layouts, access points, operations, and special considerations before an emergency occurs helps us provide a safer and more effective response when one is needed.

During the tour, crews learned about the facility’s operations, equipment, and logistics, including rail car loading and unloading areas, building access, and other features that could impact emergency response.

A huge thank you to Paula and the entire team at International Paper for taking the time to host our members and for their continued partnership. Opportunities like these help ensure that responding personnel are as prepared as possible should an emergency ever occur.
