At tonight’s City Council meeting, members of Red shift were honored with a well deserved Shift Citation, and several individuals received Letters of Commendation for their exceptional actions.

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, crews responded to a reported residential structure fire with a person reported trapped inside. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions compounded by significant hoarding, creating an extremely challenging and hazardous environment. Despite these obstacles, our crews demonstrated remarkable courage, swift decision making, and unwavering commitment to life safety.

Through coordinated efforts, aggressive interior operations, and selfless dedication, the crew successfully located and rescued the trapped victim.

This formal recognition is a testament to the high standards, extensive training, and extraordinary bravery that define the firefighters of our department.

Today, the East Ridge Fire Department was proud to hold a push in ceremony for our newest apparatus, Squad-1

A push-in ceremony is a long standing fire service tradition dating back to the days of horse drawn fire apparatus. Once a new piece of equipment was placed into service, firefighters would physically push it into the station by hand, symbolizing teamwork, pride, and readiness to serve the community.

This new Squad 1 represents a continued investment in the safety of our citizens and the firefighters who serve them. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Brian Williams, City Manager Scott Miller, City Council, and all other City officials for their ongoing support and commitment to public safety.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the City of East Ridge and look forward to putting Squad 1 to work in service of our community.

Residential Structure Fire – Duplex

On the morning of December 20th at approximately 8:12 a.m., the East Ridge Fire Department and East Ridge Police Department were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 535 South St. Marks Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews observed light smoke coming from the duplex and confirmed that all occupants had safely self evacuated prior to our arrival. Firefighters located the fire in a closet area and quickly brought it under control. Crews then conducted overhaul operations and thoroughly checked the structure for any fire extension.

It appears the cause of the fire was from an electrical short circuit. There were no injuries reported.

On Thursday, December 18, 2025, at approximately 6:19 a.m., East Ridge Fire Department, East Ridge Police Department, and Hamilton County EMS were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire with entrapment.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and fire showing from the residence. One occupant had self evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Due to the severity of the incident, a second alarm was requested through Tri-State Mutual Aid to provide additional manpower.

East Ridge fire crews immediately transitioned to a rescue mode of operations and conducted a primary search of the structure. A second occupant was located and successfully removed from the residence. The individual was transported by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital, their condition is currently unknown.

Following the rescue, crews extinguished the fire and conducted overhaul operations, as well as checks for fire extension.

Assisting agencies on scene included three East Ridge engines, one East Ridge ladder, East Ridge Air/Rehab, Chattanooga Fire Department Squad 13 and Ladder 21, Catoosa County Fire Department Engines 1 and 7, Hamilton County Rescue/Rehab, and the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management Air Trailer.

Tri-Community Engine 1245 and Rossville Engine 3 provided station coverage for East Ridge during the incident to ensure continued response capability for additional calls for service.

Our firefighters and other local first responders were proud to take part in the annual “Coats for Kids” event at Camp Jordan Park, where neighbors came together to support local children in need.

Thanks to the generosity of so many, the event collected over 2,600 coats and more than $41,000 in financial donations. These contributions will make a real difference for families in our area as the cold weather settles in.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and helped spread the word. When our community comes together, incredible things happen
