Earlier today, ERFD responded to a ruptured high-pressure gas line that was struck during construction operations on Hackensack Street.

Out of an abundance of caution, the immediate area was evacuated and Hackensack Street was closed to ensure public safety. Due to the location of the break—adjacent to a newly constructed apartment building—mutual aid was requested to assist on scene.

PSEG responded promptly and worked to mitigate the situation safely.

Thank you to mutual aid departments that assisted on scene.

Today, members of the East Rutherford Fire Department participated in a large-scale training exercise hosted by New Jersey Transit. This multi-agency drill simulated a train fire with multiple patients on board requiring triage, treatment, and coordinated rescue efforts.

Our members worked along side the Meadowlands Fire Department, second alarm companies, and several partnering agencies to sharpen critical skills in incident command, communication, and life-saving operations under realistic conditions.

This training is especially important as we prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches that will be held at MetLife Stadium, ensuring all agencies are ready to respond effectively to potential large-scale incidents.
Training like this ensures that when real emergencies happen, our crews are ready to respond quickly, safely, and effectively.

A big thank you to all agencies involved for their collaboration and commitment to public safety.
