🚨 PUBLIC HEARING CANCELED 🚨

Please be advised that the Lansdowne TIF Amendment Public Hearing, scheduled for Thursday, August 13 at 5:30 P.M., has been canceled due to the temporary closure of East St. Louis City Hall.

City Hall is temporarily closed as a precaution due to lingering concerns regarding airborne chemicals resulting from the recent industrial fire in Sauget and extreme heat conditions.

The City of East St. Louis will notify the public once a new hearing date has been scheduled.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the health and safety of our employees, residents, and visitors.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to a major chemical fire in Sauget and a plume impacting the area, East St. Louis City Hall is closed today.

Residents within the affected area are urged to shelter in place until further notice. School District 189 is also closed.

Please stay indoors, stay safe, and follow official updates as they become available.

SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER: A shelter in place order has been issued for the area within the blue outline South of Missouri Ave between S 50th St and S 19th St in the Sauget, Cahokia Heights and East St Louis

UPDATE 5:55am - Shelter in place extended to State St in East St Louis as plume expands to the North. Map below has been updated.

UPDATE 5:40am - Hazardous material identified as Trichloroisocyanuric acid. Crews are working on plume control utilizing water. The product itself is reactive to water and crews are working to secure the runoff from this incident. The shelter in place remains in effect at this time. This product is an irritant to eyes, skin and respiratory tract and exposure should be avoided if at all possible.

SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER ISSUED

There is a fire involving a hazardous material occurring at this time. A shelter in place order has been issued for the area within the blue outline South of Missouri Ave between S 50th St and S 19th St in the Sauget, Cahokia Heights and East St Louis. An Everbridge notification has been sent to all phones in that area. Please remain in your home or business, close windows and refrain from utilizing systems which brings outside air into your home. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The parade begins at 11:00 AM, followed by the festival from 11:30 AM–5:30 PM, featuring food, music, family activities, FREE rides and FREE admission.

Parade of Stars: 1886 Lincoln School Museum

The East St. Louis Historical Society invites residents, alumni, families, history enthusiasts, and community supporters to attend the annual Parade of Stars in support of the 1886 Lincoln School Museum.

Date: Saturday, August 15, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Doors Open & Registration: 12:00 PM
Location: SIU East St. Louis Campus
Building D, Auditorium

This event will celebrate the history and legacy of the 1886 Lincoln School Museum and support ongoing preservation, educational programming, and restoration efforts.
