The North Carolina Fallen Firefighter Foundation is doing two fundraiser cruises in 2027. The first one is in Feb 2027 and the other one is in August 2027. Carnival is donating $56.00 per cabin that is booked through the travel agent listed on the flyers attached to this post. Everyone is welcome. Hope to see all of you there.

What began as a 20‑acre fire has now grown to more than 50 acres and is 60% contained.

🚫 Statewide Burn Ban in Effect 🚫

Due to increased wildfire risk, the North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide burn ban effective 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 28 and continuing until further notice.

🔥 What this means:
• All open burning is prohibited, even if you already had a permit
• No new burning permits will be issued until the ban is lifted
• No warnings will be given — violations will result in fines

💲 Penalties:
• $100 fine + $183 court costs
• You may also be held responsible for any costs associated with extinguishing the fire

We ask everyone to take this seriously and help us prevent wildfires in our community.

East Spencer crews responded this morning to assist Spencer Fire Department on a working fire.

We’re always proud to stand alongside our neighboring departments and serve our community when it matters most.

Crews assess the damage at a home in the 700 block of Seventh Street in Spencer around 10 a.m. following a structure fire. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

A strong storm system is expected to move through our area late Sunday night into Monday, bringing the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain, hail, and possible tornadoes. Please take time now to prepare and stay weather aware.

Potential Hazards:
• 🌬️ Damaging Winds – Strong storms could bring down trees and power lines.
• 🌪️ Tornadoes Possible – Conditions may allow tornadoes to develop.
• 🌧️ Heavy Rain & Hail – Brief periods of intense rain and hail are possible.

Know the Difference:
• Tornado Watch – Conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form. Stay alert and be ready to act.
• Tornado Warning – A tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. Take shelter immediately.

Safety Reminders:
• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts (phone alerts, weather apps, NOAA weather radio).
• Charge phones before going to bed and keep your ringer on.
• Identify your safe place (lowest level, interior room, away from windows).
• Secure outdoor items that could blow away.

Please stay weather aware and monitor updates throughout the night and Monday. If warnings are issued, take them seriously and seek shelter immediately.

Timeline:
Effect: Saturday Morning through Early Monday Afternoon
Onset: Precipitation arriving later Saturday (slower system progression)

Primary Hazards:
Ice & Sleet: Now the dominant threat for areas South of I-40 (including Upstate SC & NC Piedmont)
Snow: Heavy snow potential (>4") has shifted further North of I-40
Impacts: Widespread hazardous travel and likely power outages

Forecast Confidence:
High Confidence: Ice accumulations >0.25" expected east of the mountains
Trend: Warmer air aloft ("warm nose") is reducing snow chances in the south

Preparation (Action Items):
Prepare for potential multi-day power outages
Restock emergency kits (Food, water, meds for 3+ days)
