🎃🚒 EAST SPRINGFIELD — WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🍬👻

For the first time in years, we’re working to bring back DOOR-TO-DOOR TRICK-OR-TREATING, and we need our community’s help to make it happen!

We’re asking residents in the following areas to participate by handing out candy:

🍬 East Springfield

🎃 Red Dog Road to the Golf Course

👻 County Road 39 from Annapolis

🍭 Circle Green

🚒 SAFETY FIRST! Our fire department units will be out patrolling the areas to help keep our little trick-or-treaters safe!

❤️ We want to bring back the Halloween traditions we all grew up with, neighborhoods filled with costumes, candy, laughter, and memories!

🏠 LIVE IN ONE OF THESE AREAS? Comment below if you’re willing to hand out candy!

📣 PLEASE SHARE! The more households we get involved, the better Halloween will be for our kids!

Our staff along with the Bergholz Fire Department are at John Gregg Elementary today and tomorrow for National Fire Prevention Week. The students learned about fire prevention, went the through the Jefferson County Fireman’s Association Safety House and sprayed a car and home fire prop.

We would like to recognize Bergholz Fire Chief and Springfield Township Fire Prevention Officer, Dwayne Morley on his exceptional efforts every year in bringing fire prevention to our students and residents. A lot of work goes into making this week a success and he does a great job.

🚒🔥 DAY 7 OF FIRE PREVENTION MONTH! 🔥🚒

🪜 ESCAPE LADDERS: YOUR WAY OUT WHEN SECONDS COUNT! 🪜

The East Springfield Fire Department is continuing our 31 Days of Fire Prevention campaign, and today’s topic could mean the difference between life and death during a house fire!

🏠 DO YOU HAVE A WAY OUT OF YOUR SECOND STORY?

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to your smoke alarms sounding. You open your bedroom door, only to find your hallway filled with thick smoke and intense heat. Your normal escape route is blocked.

WHAT’S YOUR PLAN?

A properly selected and installed emergency escape ladder could provide a lifesaving alternative exit from an upstairs bedroom!

🚨 IMPORTANT ESCAPE LADDER SAFETY TIPS:

✅ BE PREPARED! If you have bedrooms on the second or third floor, consider having an escape ladder readily available in each room.

✅ CHOOSE THE RIGHT LADDER! Make sure your ladder is designed for your window, building height, and intended users.

✅ KNOW HOW TO USE IT! Familiarize yourself and your family with the manufacturer’s instructions BEFORE an emergency happens.

✅ KEEP IT ACCESSIBLE! Store your ladder near the designated escape window, where it can be reached quickly.

✅ PRACTICE YOUR ESCAPE PLAN! Practice deploying the ladder according to manufacturer guidelines. Never conduct an actual climbing drill without appropriate professional supervision.

✅ TEACH YOUR CHILDREN! Make sure everyone understands their escape routes and knows where your family’s designated outdoor meeting place is.

🔥 REMEMBER: YOU MAY HAVE LESS THAN TWO MINUTES TO SAFELY ESCAPE A HOUSE FIRE!

Never go back inside a burning building. Once you’re outside, stay outside and call 911!

❤️ OUR MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY:

At the East Springfield Fire Department, we don’t just respond when emergencies happen. We want to help prevent tragedies before they occur.

Take a few minutes tonight to look around your home. If a fire blocked your staircase, could everyone in your family safely escape?

A LITTLE PREPARATION TODAY COULD SAVE SOMEONE YOU LOVE TOMORROW.

All year, but in particular, October, we strive to get the Fire Prevention message out to our community. Fire prevention statistically saves lives. If anyone has fire prevention related questions, please reach out us!

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION MONTH — DAY 6 🔥
STOP • DROP • AND ROLL!

Today’s fire prevention lesson is one of the simplest — but also one of the most important lifesaving skills everyone should know.

If your clothing ever catches fire, remember:

🛑 STOP — Don’t run! Running can make the flames spread faster.
⬇️ DROP — Get to the ground as quickly as possible.
🔄 ROLL — Roll back and forth until the flames are completely out. Cover your face with your hands while rolling to help protect your face and airway.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents: Take a few minutes today to practice Stop, Drop and Roll with your children. Make it something they can remember and perform without hesitation during an emergency.

And remember — keep clothing, hair, and other loose materials away from open flames, fireplaces, grills, candles, and other heat sources.

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION MONTH — DAY 5 🔥
🍳 COOKING FIRE SAFETY

Did you know the kitchen is one of the most common places for a home fire to start? A few simple habits can make a BIG difference in keeping your family and home safe.

Today’s fire prevention tips from the East Springfield Fire & Rescue Department:

🔥 Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Never leave food unattended.
🔥 Keep towels, paper, packaging, and other combustibles away from the stove.
🔥 Avoid overheating cooking oil or grease.
🔥 Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the cooking area.
🔥 Regularly clean your stove, oven, and vent hood to prevent grease buildup.
🔥 Keep an appropriate fire extinguisher accessible and know how to use it.

🚨 If a pan catches fire:
DO NOT move it and NEVER pour water on a grease fire. Turn off the heat if you can safely do so and cover the pan with a lid or baking sheet to smother the flames. If the fire does not go out or you are in danger, GET OUT and CALL 9-1-1.

👨‍🚒 Cook with care — fire safety starts at home!
