Yesterday, August 26th, Officers located this little guy stuck in the median of I-481 near the E. Genesee St. interchange. He was uninjured, but didn't want to move.

Officers were able to safely get him across the highway and on his way!

Thank you to the concerned citizen who called it in, and great job to the Officers!

Fatal Crash Investigation

The DeWitt Police reports that on August 19, 2026 at about 12:12 am, a DeWitt Officer, while patrolling the Franklin Park neighborhood, heard a loud collision somewhere in the area. Upon searching the area, the Officer located a vehicle that had collided with a tree off the west shoulder of Franklin Park Dr., in between St. Paul Dr. and Deerfield Rd.

Upon the initial investigation, it appears that a gray 2026 Kia sedan, registered out of Bronx, NY, was traveling north bound on Franklin Park Drive, crossed over the center line just north of St. Paul Dr., left the west shoulder of the road and struck a tree in front of 100 Franklin Park Dr., causing extreme damage to the vehicle.

Located within the vehicle were two adults, who were pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time, the identities of the two occupants have not been confirmed.

Both north and south bound lanes of Franklin Park Dr. between Wi******er Rd. and Deerfield Rd. will be closed while DeWitt and Manlius Accident Investigation Team members investigate the crash. The road is expected to be closed for the next few hours, so find alternate routes if you travel through this area.

Additionally, the contributing factors of the crash are still under investigation, but at this time, it appears that only one vehicle was involved in this crash.

This past Friday, August 14th, the DeWitt Police Department and the New York State Police conducted a traffic enforcement detail to address the complaints we have received in the Thompson Rd. corridor regarding aggressive driving, loud music, parked vehicles/people trespassing on private property.

During this detail, Officers conducted 39 traffic stops, issued 59 tickets, and made 10 arrests. Some of the arrests included DWI, Suspended License, Suspended Registration, Possession of Controlled Substances and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Thank you to the New York State Police for their assistance with the detail. It was a great team success and we will continue to address the issues if they continue to present themselves.

ARREST MADE FOLLOWING VEHICLE LARCENIES IN DEWITT

The individual pictured below was observed and reported by multiple community members attempting to enter unlocked vehicles throughout the Town of DeWitt during the early morning hours today.

Thanks to the quick reporting by our residents and the efforts of DeWitt Police Officers, the suspect was located near the intersection of Jamesville Road and Charing Road. Officers found him in possession of property that had been stolen from vehicles in the area.

The suspect was identified as Nathan S. Groesbeck, 30, of Syracuse, NY. He was charged with Petit Larceny and, pursuant to New York State laws and guidelines, was issued an appearance ticket and released with a later court date.

Unfortunately, within one hour of being released from the DeWitt Police Department, Groesbeck walked to Claret Circle in DeWitt and stole a set of golf clubs valued at approximately $3,500 from another unlocked vehicle. DeWitt Police Officers quickly located him walking on Kinne Road while carrying the stolen clubs.

Groesbeck was subsequently charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center to await arraignment.

As we anticipate his release in the near future, we ask our community to remain vigilant. If you observe suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call 911 immediately. Your prompt reporting played a significant role in today's arrests and helps keep our community safe.

A reminder to all residents:

- Always lock your vehicles, even when parked in your driveway.
- Ensure there is ample lighting on the exterior of your residence.
- Remove or secure valuables and keep them out of sight.
- If you have security cameras, review any footage from the early morning hours and contact the DeWitt Police Department if you believe you captured suspicious activity.

We appreciate the continued partnership and vigilance of our community. Working together, we can prevent crimes of opportunity and help keep DeWitt a safe place to live.

- Retired member of a Police Department, Sheriff's Office, or New York State Police
