Recently, the DeWitt Police Department has received an increase in complaints regarding commercial truck traffic in the Jamesville Road and I-81/481 corridor. In response, we have conducted several Commercial Vehicle Enforcement details focused on improving roadway safety in the area.

Today, another enforcement detail was conducted in partnership with the New York State Department of Transportation Motor Carrier Division and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. During the detail, 40 transportation law violations were discovered, including 14 out-of-service violations; the majority involving defective brakes.

These types of violations pose a significant danger to the motoring public, especially on heavily traveled roadways. We appreciate the collaborative efforts of our partner agencies and remain committed to addressing community concerns and keeping our roads safe for everyone.

Thank you to New York State Department of Transportation and Onondaga County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in today's success.

Please join us in congratulating our newest academy graduates, Ofc. Florczyk and Ofc. Lugert!

Ofc. Florczyk recently graduated from the Central New York Regional Police Academy and will now begin the next phase of his training with the DeWitt Police Department’s Field Training Program.

Ofc. Lugert successfully completed Phase 1 of the Madison County Regional Police Academy and will now continue on to Phase 2, followed by the Department’s Field Training Program.

Both officers have worked extremely hard to reach this point, and we are proud of their dedication and commitment to serving our community.

Please join us in wishing them continued success as they begin their law enforcement careers with the DeWitt Police Department!

The DeWitt Police Department has had an increase of complaints regarding the usage of E-Bikes & E-Scooters being operated unlawfully on public roadways.

To clear up any confusion as to the legality of the usage of these items, we have created the attached guide for reference.

With the increased traffic with the I-81 project, the DeWitt Police Department would like to remind all motorists to be conscientious of all traffic laws and to keep your eyes on the road!

Last week, we had a great time connecting with members of our community during our Coffee with a Cop event at Starbucks on Erie Boulevard.

We truly appreciate everyone who stopped by to chat, ask questions, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee with our officers. Events like these are a great reminder of the importance of building strong relationships within the community we proudly serve.

A big thank you to Starbucks for hosting us, and to everyone who took the time to come out and support the event. We look forward to doing it again soon!

The members of the DeWitt Police Department are keeping the Officers of the Syracuse Police Department in our thoughts following today’s barricaded gunman incident in which two officers were shot and injured in the line of duty.

We are wishing both officers a full and speedy recovery, and extend our support to their families, fellow Officers, and the entire Syracuse Police Department during this difficult incident.

Situations like these are a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement Officers face every day while protecting their communities.

Stay strong SPD!
