Please Respect Gilman Waite
We are extremely disappointed to have to make this post. Two days ago, the Little Free Library at Gilman Waite was vandalized.
This library wasn’t just something that appeared at the park. It was built as an Eagle Scout project by a young member of our community who put her time, effort, and pride into creating something for everyone to enjoy. To see someone intentionally damage it is completely unacceptable.
Gilman Waite belongs to all of us, and the facilities and improvements there are meant for our kids, families, and community to enjoy. Destroying property isn’t funny, harmless, or “kids being kids.” It is vandalism, and ultimately it takes opportunities and resources away from everyone else.
Parents, please talk with your kids, especially if they spend time hanging out at Gilman Waite. Remind them to respect the park, the property, and the hard work that volunteers and members of this community have put into making Gilman Waite a better place.
We want our parks to be places our kids can enjoy and be proud of. Please help us keep them that way.

The Annual Go Play Outside Day & Craft Fair event was hosted by the Templeton Parks & Rec department at Gilman Waite yet again! Live music, consessions, local artisans, fun games, and even the dunk tank returned. You could say everyone involved had a Field Day!

HIGHLIGHTS from the Templeton Town Report of August 27, 2026

TREASURER/COLLECTOR - Fiscal Year 2027 property tax bills have been mailed. Property owners who have not received a bill should contact the Treasurer/Collector’s Office as soon as possible. The first-quarter tax payment was due August 3rd, and the second-quarter payment is due November 2nd. Property owners who missed the first-quarter deadline should contact the Treasurer/Collector’s Office for an updated amount due.

PARKS & RECREATION - The soccer and softball seasons begin on September 12, with 37 softball players and 225 soccer players registered. This year, the softball program has entered three teams in a local Leominster fall league, giving players the opportunity to compete against teams from nearby towns. As this is our first season in the league, the coaches and players are excited to take on teams from across Central Massachusetts.

The Fire Department is offering car seat installations. If you need help with inspecting and installing your child's car seat, please call the office at 978-939-2222 to set up an appointment.

Residential Open burning season is finished for the year. Agricultural open-burning permits may be obtained at the Fire Station.

HEALTH - Through August 15, 2026, there were three molecular tests for COVID-19 that resulted in one positive result. Templeton is still in the “low” risk category for both WNV and EEE; there have been two human cases reported in Middlesex County. Acute respiratory issues (including acute respiratory disease, RSV, influenza, and COVID-19) for MA are very low at this time, through 8/15/26.

Beach water quality is still well below the State recommended limit at both TF&G and Pinewood Shores. The maximum allowed limit is 235; TF&G result was 5, and Pinewood Shores result was 4.

On September 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., there will be a flu clinic in the Conference room at Town Hall, more information to come.

CONSERVATION COMMISSION - Drought conditions in the Central Region (which includes Templeton) remain at a Level 2 Significant Drought.

COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE - Progress is being made at multiple project sites around Town with CPA funding; specifically then Senior Center Garden project and the Gilman Waite Ballfield project.

LIBRARY- The library will be closed temporarily for our renovation. Patrons may use any of our neighboring libraries. For any questions, please email Jackie at [email protected] or call (978) 894-2780.

SENIOR SERVICES - In addition to our regularly scheduled programs, we had the Mandala Keychain Craft, Tech Support with TCTV, Book Club, and Newburyport Trip! Attendance 95, Services 4, Volunteers 8, Rides 45.

TCTV/CABLE TELEVISION: Templeton Arts videos (funded by a Templeton Cultural Council grant) and event videos are in production and nearing release. We are having very supportive conversations with potential TCTV business sponsors and already have video shoots scheduled. More to come!
