The City of Washington Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred in the 10 block of North Main Street.

Officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 5:48 p.m. Both individuals involved in the incident are currently receiving medical treatment.

At this time, there is no known threat to the public, and the incident is believed to be isolated.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and when appropriate.

🚸 School Zones & School Bus Safety in Pennsylvania 🚌

As students head back to school, please slow down and stay alert in school zones and around school buses. When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, traffic must stop as required by Pennsylvania law.

Watch carefully for children crossing the road, obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, and give school buses plenty of room.

A special good luck and best wishes to all the students, teachers, staff, and families at Faith Christian Academy and Washington School District as they start another school year! 📚✏️

🚔 Vehicle Security Reminder 🔒

We have received reports of vehicle break-ins occurring overnight. We are reminding residents to take a few simple precautions to help protect themselves and their property.

Please lock your vehicles every night, even when parked in your driveway, and avoid leaving valuables, fi****ms, electronics, wallets, or other important items inside your vehicle.

Many vehicle break-ins are crimes of opportunity. Taking a few extra seconds to secure your vehicle can make a big difference.

Please remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the police department. Stay safe!

RABIES ALERT – PLEASE BE AWARE

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has confirmed that a grey fox found in the area of Elmhurst Drive in Washington on August 11, 2026, tested positive for rabies.

The fox was euthanized and taken by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and there is no immediate threat to the public at this time.

Residents are still encouraged to use caution around wild or stray animals. Anyone who may have been bitten, scratched, or otherwise exposed to the fox should contact the Washington County State Health Center at 724-223-4540 or, after hours, 877-PA-HEALTH (877-724-3258).

Anyone whose pet may have had contact with the fox should contact their veterinarian and make sure all pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

Please avoid contact with wild animals, including bats, raccoons, foxes, and skunks, and share this information with anyone who may have been in the area.

We would like to remind our community that an officer is not stationed at the police station at all times to answer the department phone. Officers may be out on patrol, handling calls, assisting other agencies, or otherwise away from the station.

If you need to speak with an officer or require a police response, the fastest and most reliable way to reach us is to call 911.

When calling 911, please let the dispatcher know:
• Why you are calling.
• Whether the situation is an emergency or non-emergency.
• Whether you need an officer to respond in person or would like an officer to contact you by phone.

Calling 911 does not mean your situation has to be an emergency. The dispatcher will ask questions about your situation and ensure your call is directed appropriately.

Please do not rely on leaving a message at the police station when you need to speak with an officer, as there may not be anyone at the station to receive or promptly return your call.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding. Our goal is to make sure you can reach an officer as quickly and efficiently as possible when you need us.
