Piylesvanth Alley is scheduled to be paved on Wednesday, August 26.

NO PARKING will be permitted in Piylesvanth Alley during paving operations.

All vehicles must be removed prior to the start of work. Vehicles remaining in the posted work area may be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense, as permitted by law.

East Washington Borough’s new Ford Police Interceptor is officially here!

The new Explorer, professionally outfitted by IBIS, will be replacing our 2017 Ford Ta**us and provides our officers with an updated, reliable vehicle to help them safely serve and protect our community.

Thank You, Washington & Jefferson College Volunteers!

A huge thank you to the newest students at Washington & Jefferson College who came out on Saturday for their Day of Service and helped make East Washington a cleaner place!

This is the second year the Borough has participated in the W&J Day of Service. Students spent the morning walking our streets and picking up litter, as well as pulling weeds and helping spruce up Nicholas Cumer Park and around the Borough sign. We filled the trailer with dozens of bags of garbage and weeds.

Thank you to Council Members Joe Fulton and Mike McCormick for coordinating the event, Park & Shade Chairperson Sara Althouse for helping lead the event, Public Works employees Aaron Lucera and Jeff Byrge, and Office Administrator Alyssa Curry-Broderick, who created thank-you stickers for the students.

And, most importantly, thank you to the following W&J students who volunteered their time and effort.

RABIES ALERT – PLEASE BE AWARE

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has confirmed that a grey fox found in the area of Elmhurst Drive in Washington on August 11, 2026, tested positive for rabies.

The fox was euthanized and taken by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and there is no immediate threat to the public at this time.

Residents are still encouraged to use caution around wild or stray animals. Anyone who may have been bitten, scratched, or otherwise exposed to the fox should contact the Washington County State Health Center at 724-223-4540 or, after hours, 877-PA-HEALTH (877-724-3258).

Anyone whose pet may have had contact with the fox should contact their veterinarian and make sure all pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

Please avoid contact with wild animals, including bats, raccoons, foxes, and skunks, and share this information with anyone who may have been in the area.

We have been informed that our contractor (Ten Mile) is expected to begin work on South Wade Avenue improvements as early as August 18! The exact start date will depend on weather conditions and the completion of the contractor's current project.

During construction, South Wade Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Beau Street and Wheeling Street. Left turns onto Thayer Street from Beau Street will also be restricted.

Residents who live along this section of South Wade Avenue will continue to have access to their homes and may still park on the street.

Official Detour Routes

From East Beau Street:
Follow East Beau Street toward W&J and turn left onto College Street. From there, motorists can turn left onto Wheeling Street for local traffic or continue to East Maiden Street.

From Wheeling / East Maiden Street:
Use South Lincoln Street and turn right onto East Beau Street.

We ask drivers to please follow the official detour routes and avoid using neighborhood streets as shortcuts. Local streets should be used by residents and local traffic only.

The project is expected to take approximately one to two weeks, weather permitting. We understand that road closures and detours can be frustrating, but we are looking forward to completing these improvements as quickly as possible. As part of this project, the Borough asked our engineer, Harshman CE Group, to conduct a weight limit study that will restrict larger vehicles on South Wade Avenue moving forward, protecting our infrastructure investment for years to come.

This project was made possible, in part, by the Borough's recent tax increase. While we understand that no one welcomes a tax increase, the additional revenue is allowing the Borough to invest in much-needed infrastructure improvements and address projects that have been delayed for years. Following the South Wade project, the Borough will repave Piylesvanth Alley, which is one of our few remaining unpaved alleys.

Please use caution when traveling through the area, follow all traffic directions, and be mindful of the workers and equipment on the roadway.

We had a great turnout for our annual Community Picnic, especially after rescheduling. We’re so happy that the community came out to enjoy an afternoon of food and fun.

The annual picnic has become a wonderful tradition here in the Borough, and we’re proud to continue putting it on for our community each year.

We are especially grateful for the Park and Shade Committee and all of their dedicated volunteers. They consistently give their time, energy, and hard work to help make our Borough events possible.

A huge thank you to all of the committee members and their spouses who gave their time to help set up, tear down, and take care of everything in between. We truly appreciate everything you do for East Washington!
