They call it the “Millionaires Tax”, but it’s not. It’s a tax on everyone that currently has a high standard deduction. But you can be sure that the standard deduction will get lower every year until finally everyone is paying it. For retired people it’s even worse: Combine Required Minimum Distributions from your IRA or 401k that go up every year, with an income tax deduction that goes down every year, and much of your retirement savings will get gobbled up in taxes and wasted by state government. — READ MORE: douglascountyrepublicans.org.

Here’s a curious one. Reps. Brian Burnett and Tom Dent explain away why they voted for ESB 5068 to allow non-citizens to serve as corrections officers, firefighters and deputy prosecutors. It’s because they kept it from also allowing non-citizens to become police officers. Majority Democrats didn’t need their votes though. But do we really want foreigners on work visas as deputy prosecutors? Was there some vote trading maybe for Dent to get something he wants as he prepares a run for the state Senate?

Lawsuit threats result in unanimous Pride banner ban
LGBTQ+ activists showed their hatred and lack of love, lack of tolerance, lack of diversity, lack of inclusion and lack of civility when they exploded in loud F-bombs of venomous anger after the East Wenatchee City Council, on March 3, unanimously eliminated Pride banners from city light poles. -- CONTINUE READING AT: douglascountyrepublicans.org.

BREAKING: State Democrats Decertifying Very Popular Pacific County, WA Sheriff
DIANE L. GRUBER, Feb. 21, 2026
Democrats in Olympia have devised a way to push aside the voters and give themselves power over who should and should not be a county sheriff or police chief. It is called Senate Bill No. 5974 (SB 5974) which contains a number of tyrannical provisions, but the one that prevents Sheriff Garcia from running for re-election this November requires a sheriff or a police chief to have five years of law enforcement experience. Garcia will have only four years at election time.

Daniel Garcia was overwhelmingly elected in 2022 with 61% of the vote as a write-in candidate (write-in candidates are also being outlawed) who challenged the county’s Deep State incumbent. The five-year rule currently only applies to a handful of police chiefs across the state and ONE sheriff, Garcia, who is very popular, in part, because he has cleaned up a dysfunctional department that ignored the needs of county residents. Olympia has taken note of him. This writer believes the five-year provision was chosen specifically to disqualify Sheriff Garcia. Democrats could have chosen four years or ten years or any figure.

END RUN

Ray and Garcia have come up with a brilliant idea around this latest Democrat plot against voting rights: Undersheriff Ray, who had decades of experience as a Pacific County Deputy Sheriff before becoming undersheriff, will run for sheriff and he will appoint Garcia as his undersheriff. Ray is both well known and well liked. He will likely win in a landslide against the candidate chosen by the county’s Deep State: Rich Byrd. Despite the fact that he quit the sheriff’s office 20 years ago and has been selling cars in Astoria, Oregon, the county commissioners talked Byrd into running. Even though his law enforcement skills are way, WAY out of date, Byrd will qualify under the five-year rule.

The Pacific County Commissioners so detest the popular Garcia that they removed the 911 dispatch office and the county jail from the sheriff’s office under which they had operated for decades. This article details the Pacific County Commissioners numerous schemes against Sheriff Garcia during this short tenure: Click Here.

A DECADE OF SCHEMING

The last decade or so a scheme has been developed by the Democrat Party who hate the independence of county sheriffs. They have been chip, chip, chipping away at the citizens’ right to choose their sheriff at the ballot box and transfering that “right” to unelected, unnamed bureaucrats appointed by Democrats. This legislative session has seen a plethora of such bills. SEE ARTICLE LINKED BELOW.

Senate Bill No. 5974 (SB 5974) has already passed the senate with a Democrats voting for it and all Republicans voting against it. The house, also owned by the Hard Left, is expected to pass it and Governor Bob Ferguson is expected to sign it. After all, during his 12 years as attorney general he was instrumental in concocted many forms of “defunding police.” This is yet another. Under the bill, before being sworn in, an elected sheriff must first get the approval of a state “appointing authority.” I don’t need to tell my readers that NO independent-minded or constitutional sheriff will ever be sworn in again, the voters be damned.

Thirty of Washington’s 39 sheriffs, along with some county commissioners & prosecutors across the state, with the Spokane County prosecutor leading the way, are in the process of drafting a lawsuit to fight this bill once it has been enacted. It violates both the Washington Constitution and the US Constitution.

In memory of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, civil right leader and two-time presidential candidate, who died today, Feb. 17, 2026, at age 84.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a Jesse Jackson fan, but I did have a few minutes with him on Aug. 12, 1986, when I was a political reporter for The Times of Hammond, Ind. I was covering his speech at a union rally at a U.S. Steel plant in Gary, Ind. He made his first run for president two years earlier. The crowd was big and there was other media. I wanted to get him one-on-one. I walked up a grassy knoll behind me and sure enough there was his limo on the other side, down slope at curbside. I positioned myself halfway down the slope. When the rally finished, he and his body guards crested the knoll walking right to me. I introduced myself and asked my question. I know I thought it was important at the time, but I have no memory of what it was now. Anyhow, he ignored my question, asked where I was from and just wanted to schmooze. Soon other people and media surrounded us. Others started asking questions. I was a little frustrated that he didn’t answer mine and asked again. He gave me some sort of dodge. My photog John G. Kenney captured the moment. During my year-and-a-half in that job, I interviewed Richard Lugar, Dan Quayle, Birch Bayh, Evan Bayh, and covered events of Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush, Gary Hart and Coretta Scott King. And the General Assembly (Legislature) in Indianapolis.

Thune Fumbles SAVE Act Opportunity
from Senate Conservatives, Feb. 4, 2026
Senate Republican Leader John Thune (R-SD) announced yesterday that Republicans would not use a “talking” filibuster to break the Democrats’ obstruction of the SAVE Act.

This makes no sense.

Stopping non-citizen voting in federal elections is not only a widely popular idea, but it’s also essential to securing our nation’s future.

Thune said a talking filibuster would “tie up the Senate” and take up limited floor time needed for other things.

This is the worst excuse he could have made. The Senate only works two and a half days a week now, so there’s plenty of time to do what it takes to save our country.

The sad truth is that there are still too many Senate Republicans who are unwilling to fight for our principles and values. They hide behind the 60-vote threshold to fool their own voters.

Sean Davis at The Federalist explained this well.

Senate Republicans refuse to force standing filibusters, which would lead to bills passing with only 51 votes, because it would condition their own voters to actually getting the laws they were promised enacted into law. Can’t have that, now can we.

Second, such a process would expose the 10-15 most worthless Republicans who would vote against these bills, showing that even with a majority, Republicans somehow never have a majority.

As a result, they use the 60-vote threshold as a handy excuse for their own refusal to ever do anything they promise. They always have the time and the votes to shovel your money to Ukraine or to carve out new tax loopholes for their corporate lobbyist friends.

What they have no time or patience for is doing anything their actual constituents demand. And that right there is why Republicans are going to get destroyed in November if they don’t start doing what they promised.

This should make every conservative’s blood boil.

And it should make us work harder than ever to elect strong conservatives who share our values and will do what it takes to advance our priorities — even if that means working a normal five-day work week.
