⚠️ Water Quality Warning for Crescent Bar ⚠️

Please read and share this important advisory from Grant County Health District regarding potential toxic algae exposure.

🚫 Avoid contact with the water from Trinidad Beach to Chinook Park until further notice. Please keep children and pets away from the water.

Please share to help keep our community and pets safe. 💙

Grant County, WA - Grant County Health District (GCHD) is issuing a water quality warning advisory for the Crescent Bar area due to a potential toxic algae exposure that resulted in the death of a dog.

We advise you to avoid contact with all water along the shoreline from Trinidad Beach to Chinook Park in Crescent Bar until further notice.

Current Situation
On August 26, 2026, we received a report of a dog that spent time in the above areas and later showed signs of cyanotoxin poisoning, an illness caused by harmful toxins found in algae blooms. Sadly, the dog passed away shortly afterward.

We are working to post warning signs and collect samples from these areas. Results will be posted on our monitoring page linked below and on our social media channels.

https://granthealth.org/251/Toxin-Sampling-Results

“Pets are part of the family, and our hearts are with the dog’s owners as they grieve this sudden loss,” said Stephanie Shopbell, GCHD Environmental Health Manager. “This death is a serious indication that a toxic bloom may be present. Please keep your family and pets safe by avoiding contact with water in this area until more information becomes available. Remember to always check before you go, and when in doubt, stay out.”

What does it really take to support lactating employees?

🤱 This reel includes personal experiences from local parents about challenges with pumping and breastfeeding after returning to work—including challenges with milk supply, continuing breastfeeding as planned, scheduling, workload, privacy, interruptions, and feeling rushed. It also explores practical ways employers can help and important changes coming to Washington’s workplace lactation laws in 2027.

🫶 Supporting lactation takes more than a room. It takes protected time, flexibility, planning, and a supportive workplace culture.

🤱 It’s , and this year’s theme is “Work. Pump. Advance. Empowering the modern parent.” At WIC, we support working parents by providing breast pumps, peer support and lactation experts, nutritious food, and personalized food packages to support your breastfeeding goals.

We believe breastfeeding parents should be able to feed their babies or toddlers (or pump/hand express milk!) at work, school, and in public with respect and support. ➡Learn more about your breastfeeding rights: https://signupwic.com/resources/know-your-rights-breastfeeding

💜 August 31st — International Overdose Awareness Day

Today, we remember the lives lost to overdose, honor the families and loved ones left behind, and stand with those who are still here. Overdose can affect anyone, and prevention starts with awareness, compassion, and connection. There is no shame in asking for help, carrying naloxone, or supporting someone who is struggling.
