Join us for a free Streamwalk training with Save the Sound on Saturday, July 25, from 10 AM–2 PM at the Somers Public Library in Connecticut!

Learn how to assess the health of local streams during an indoor training session, then put your new skills into practice with a guided streamwalk along the Gulf Stream, a tributary of the Scantic River.

No experience is needed— just come ready to learn and help protect the Scantic River Watershed. RSVP here: ctriver.org/event-details/streamwalk-training

A picturesque First Day Hike to usher in 2026 after last night’s fresh snowfall. Over 125 happy hikers joined us! A huge thank-you to everyone who donated to the Five Corner Cupboard Food Pantry, to the AHRC volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the trails, and to A&D PortableRentals LLC. The warming barrel and hot chocolate station warmed up everyone after our 2.5 mile hike. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year~Happy Trails🥾!

Forecast for tomorrow’s annual First Day Hike is looking ☀️ sunny, though temperatures are expected to be chilly. Please be advised that trail conditions include rutted sections and frozen snow. For safety, hikers are strongly encouraged to wear appropriate traction devices—such as microspikes, Yaktrax, or ice cleats—over their hiking boots if available.
We look forward to starting the new year together on the trail.
Don’t forget, food donations will be collected for our local food pantry!
