Patrons made beautiful tiered stands during May's Maker's Night using thrifted vintage dishes or those they brought from home. Using a diamond drill bit, holes were drilled in the dishes and then the tiered stands were assembled using cake stand kits. Everyone loved the results! These tiered stands are a perfect way to display confections at a party. One patron will be using hers as a vintage trinket dish!

Her latest book is The Martha Vineyard's Beach and Book Club in which two sisters living on Martha’s Vineyard during World War II find hope in the power of storytelling when they start a wartime book club for womenβ€”a spectacular novel inspired by true events. Book Club On the Go will be our book seller that day, and as always, you can expect a lovely themed reception. Angel Down by Daniel Kraus has just won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction! The novel is a "World War I narrative with a celestial twist that unfolds over some 300 pages in one long sentence" according to the Associated Press. "Pulitzer officials praised "Angel Down" as "a stylistic tour-de-force that blends such genres as allegory, magical realism, and science fiction into a cohesive whole, told in a single sentence." Our resident bookstagrammer Jody Blanchette had actually listed Angel Down as one of her top ten reads of 2025! (Click on the link below to see Jody's 2025 Top Ten picks!) Jody is very excited about this win because it is seen as a direct recognition of the horror genre.

Have you read Angel Down? What did you think of it?

On Tuesday evening, Quiet Corner Reads area librarians welcomed Connecticut author Wally Lamb to The Mansion at Bald Hill in Woodstock, CT. In casual and cozy style, Jonathan Andersen engaged Wally in conversation on a host of topics. Wally touched on his themes of twins and heavy topics found throughout his books, his work with prison inmates, and of course, he spoke at length about his latest book River is Waiting. A truly special man who has made an impact on so many people's lives, Wally Lamb captivated the audience. Librarians and children painted rocks with the word HOPE for each guest.

Special thanks to A Great Notion - bookseller for this event.

Needless to say, we are beyond thrilled with the arrival of our new love seat and ottoman today purchased for the library by the Friends of the Eastford Public Library. Our vision of creating a warm, inviting, and welcoming space for our teens is beginning to come true. Pictured here on the sofa from left to right are Meghan Martinez - secretary and Nancy Conlan - president, champion, and founding member. We are so grateful to have such an active Friends group dedicated to helping us fulfill our mission and turn our dreams into reality. You are THE best. Thank you so much! 🫢
