Another CT library has recently experienced book challenges. This article comes just after Cragin Memorial Library in Colchester had a similar experience, except the challenger was the town’s First Selectman.
As a librarian, I firmly believe in allowing unrestricted access to information in the library. It ensures that we are able to serve the needs of everyone in our community because we respect diversity and that should be reflected in our collections.
In these book challenge situations, the parent/caretaker should be the one guiding what their children read. It is not the job of the library or its staff to censor what our patrons read.
