Balancing the need for housing with need to preserve precious natural resources can be a tricky challenge on Cape Cod. To help streamline land use planning and provide evidence-based resources for smart growth, the Association to Preserve Cape Cod and Housing Assistance Corporation - HAC have collaborated on a new initiative called "Grow Smart Cape Cod." The project resulted in land use maps and policy recommendations for all 15 Cape Cod towns, including Eastham. The maps show priority areas for housing, and priority areas for natural resource protection. Eastham Town officials - along with board and committee representatives from Housing, Conservation, Recreation, and other areas - are using the Grow Smart Cape Cod tools to facilitate discussion about future land use in Eastham.
