Easthampton City Arts and the Easthampton Cultural Council are thrilled to invite you all to the public unveiling and celebration of Amy Johnquest’s (Amy Johnquest) newly painted and re-imagined utility boxes!

WHEN: Thursday August 20th @ 5pm
WHERE: 50 Payson Avenue

Light refreshments will be provided by Wake the Dead Donuts (Wake the Dead Donuts) and Dry Humor (Dry Humor)! And the lovely music of Masala Jazz (SiriNam Khalsa) will be taking place on the Nashawannuck Pond Promenade as part of our Beats on the Boardwalk programming.

Here’s a bit of background regarding the sequence of events of how this “new” trio of painted utility boxes came to be:

First, Amy Johnquest’s original utility box “Power to the People” was de-installed as part of the Union Street redesign project. At the same time, ECC was looking to commission a local artist to paint the two newer boxes that had been installed, on Payson and Main Streets. And, the ECA Public Art Committee had the vision to relocate the original box and to repurpose it to become a community feedback container for arts + culture in Easthampton. Many of you saw Amy at work painting the utility boxes this summer — and we’re thrilled to celebrate her and Easthampton’s newest public artworks!

It has been a deeply collaborative process all around. We extend our thanks to Mayor Derby (Mayor Salem Derby) for his approval and support of the community feedback box at City Hall, to Greg Nuttleman and the entire DPW team for their involvement every step of the way, to Michael Poole (Blue Collar Artisans) for his metalwork, and last but not least to Amy Johnquest for sharing her beautiful imagery and important messaging with us and with community!

And, it has been a wonderful, well-coordinated, and fun collaboration between ECA & ECC, with generous support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council Mass Cultural Council

Thank you all! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 8/20 at 5pm! 💜
