This past Friday, members of our Dodge and Bleckley County dive teams travelled to Clarks Hill/ Strom Thurmond Reservoir on the Savannah River to work on continued training including certification for enriched air and deep certification. Although the severe weather cut us short on finishing our deep dives, we will return. Along the way we stopped off Bubbles or Not Dive Shop in Harlem for air cylinders and additional equipment. We want to extend our sincere appreciation for their help and service. If you're in the area, hit them up.

We are proud to announce that the Dodge County Fire Department has been selected to receive emergency drinking water through the Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters Program.
Each year, Anheuser-Busch temporarily pauses beer production to produce emergency drinking water. In partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council this program helps provide volunteer fire departments with the critical hydration needed during extreme heat, wildland fires, and extended emergency responses. THANK YOU Anheuser-Busch and NVFC!
We would also like to extend a sincere thank you Southern Crown Partners Vidalia for delivering the water to our station. Your support helps keep our firefighters hydrated, healthy, and ready to serve our community.

Dodge County: Airport Road is scheduled to close at Alligator Creek on Monday, July 13. Griffin Grading & Concrete, LLC has been awarded a $1.85 million project to replace the existing bridge at this location, about 8 miles northeast of Eastman. The new bridge will be built in place of the existing bridge to minimize right-of-way and environmental impacts.

The road is expected to close for five months. An offsite detour will be implemented.

Detour: Horne Road to Fountain Road, Fountain Road to SR 126, SR 126 to Pat Mullis Road, Pat Mullis Road to Old Eastman Road

With the recent heavy rains experienced, several roads in the county were closed last night for flooding out of caution. While the water has receded and roads have started to reopen, another round of wet weather is coming this evening into tomorrow.

A few things we ask you to be aware of:

If you are traveling in low lying areas, be aware of roads possibly being under water. Turn around, don't drown.

If a road is closed by tape, barrels, signs, or cones, please avoid these areas as they are closed for safety concerns including washouts. 6 inches of moving water is enough to force a car off the road and deeper into flood waters.

Another concern is high flows of water through culverts. This creates a large pressure difference, easily pulling objects or people into these pipes and can cause drownings.

Thank you and be safe.
