In the News 🗞️ Congratulations to County Engineer Ray Clarke on 26 Years of Service

The Talbot County Council recently recognized Raymond P. “Ray” Clarke, P.E., upon his retirement following 26 years of dedicated service as Talbot County Engineer.

Ray began his career with Talbot County Government on August 7, 2000. Over the next 26 years, his professionalism, technical expertise, responsiveness, and commitment to public service earned the respect of colleagues and residents throughout Talbot County.

Under Ray’s leadership, the Department of Public Works completed and advanced major infrastructure projects throughout the County, including wastewater treatment and sewer improvements, the replacement and rehabilitation of roads, bridges and culverts, and numerous County facility and school construction and renovation projects. His work also helped secure more than $150 million in federal and State grants for sewer, road, construction and renovation projects in Talbot County.

Congratulations on a remarkable career, Ray, and thank you for 26 years of service to Talbot County!

In the News 📰 Progress on the Mid-Shore’s New Regional Medical Center

Members of the Talbot County Council and County staff recently had the opportunity to tour the future University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center site in Easton and see firsthand the progress being made on the new facility.

The project has been years in the making and represents a major investment in health care for Talbot County and communities across the Mid-Shore.

“It’s great to see how much progress has been made,” said Talbot County Council President Chuck Callahan. “This project has been a long time coming, and it’s exciting to see it taking shape right here in Talbot County. This is going to be a great resource for our community and the entire Mid-Shore.”

In the News 🗞️ Talbot County Council President Chuck Callahan recently sat down with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to discuss the partnerships and persistence behind Talbot County’s decade-long effort to expand broadband access.

What began with the formation of the Rural Broadband Task Force in 2016 has reached a major milestone: Talbot County is the first county in Maryland to achieve full broadband access.

Stay tuned for DHCD’s upcoming video highlighting the Connect Talbot project and the local, state, and federal partnerships that helped make it possible.

Each year, Maryland’s counties come together at the MACo Summer Conference to exchange ideas, explore emerging issues, and look ahead at the future of local government.

This year’s theme, “Future Forward,” focuses on technology, artificial intelligence, cyber, and online innovations. Talbot County Government with Talbot 250 and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum teamed up to take the theme in a uniquely Talbot County direction: looking back as we look forward.

Under the theme “Honoring the Past. Stepping Into the Future,” the Talbot County booth highlights innovators, leaders, advocates, and changemakers with ties to Talbot County whose ideas and actions helped move their communities, and sometimes the nation, forward. Visitors can also experience that connection between history and technology firsthand through an AI-powered conversation with Frederick Douglass, developed using research from the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Responses are generated exclusively from Douglass’s documented writings and speeches, allowing visitors to engage with his words and ideas in a new way.

In town for MACo? Stop by the Talbot County booth to collect one of eight Talbot County Legends trading cards, featuring Frederick Douglass, James “Jim” Rouse, Mary Bartlett Dixon, John Dickinson, Nathaniel “Uncle Nace” Hopkins, Thelma Alford, Tench Tilghman, and Frank “Home Run” Baker. After the conference, these will be available at upcoming Talbot 250 events.

Press Release 🗞️ National Weather Service Confirms Tornado in Talbot County; Damage Assessments Underway

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down Tuesday evening in the area near Trappe in Talbot County.

The National Weather Service (Mount Holly, NJ) will conduct a storm survey on Wednesday to determine the tornado's Enhanced Fujita (EF) rating and assess the extent of the damage.

Throughout Tuesday evening, emergency personnel responded to multiple storm-related incidents across the County.

County emergency management personnel are conducting damage assessments throughout the affected areas today to document impacts and gather additional information. Those assessments, along with the National Weather Service survey, will help determine the full extent of the storm's impacts.

Residents are encouraged to use caution around damaged trees, downed power lines, and debris. Any downed utility lines should be considered energized and reported immediately to the appropriate utility provider.

Talbot County will provide additional information, including a summary of storm damage and response efforts, as it becomes available.
