Join us at the National Book Festival on Saturday, August 22! 📚

Maryland Humanities will be representing our state at the National Book Festival at the Roadmap to Reading.

Take a literary trip around the country by visiting the Roadmap to Reading, which will feature tables with representatives from 54 Centers for the Book: one for each state as well as tables for the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Marianas.

Pick up a "Great Reads from Great Places" brochure, and visit each table in the Roadmap to Reading to explore each state’s great reads and receive a unique ink stamp. Those who collect all of the stamps can receive a special giveaway at the IMLS booth!

Hijinks ensued at the Easton Branch on Thursday night! 🧸

Participants of the Stuffed Animal Sleepover brought their stuffies for a special storytime and made adorable sleep masks for their furry friends. After storytime, the stuffies stayed the night at the library....and of course a bit of after-hours mischief took place! 🤫

We had so much fun today at the Hawaiian Cultural Celebration! 🌺

From crafts to a STEM activity creating our own erupting "volcanoes", we enjoyed seeing everyone's smiling faces at the St. Michaels Branch today! 🌋 A special thank-you to the "Ukes of Hazzard" band and the Cambridge, MD Ukulele Group for sharing their love of music with us! ❤️

Loyalty and Zeal: Algonkians of the Revolution  (1774-1783)

Date: Saturday, August 22, 2026

Location: Talbot County Free Library, Easton

Join Drew Shuptar- Rayvis, citizen of the Pocomoke Indian Nation, to honor the contributions, struggles and sacrifices made by Algonkian peoples during the War of American Independence. Explore the unique material culture and trade objects of Algonkian and Iroquoian people during the Revolution. Navigate the complex political paths of patriotism, Toryism and neutrality trod by Algonkian and Iroquoian people as they worked to preserve their way of life in the face of overwhelming odds. Consider both the devastation of the Sullivan Campaign and the contributions to the shape of history made by numerous Algonkian people, both patriot and loyalist.

This is presented by the Talbot Historical Society in partnership with the Talbot County Free Library and will take place at the library located at 100 W. Dover St., Easton, MD 21601.

The lecture is free to the public, seating is limited, so arriving early will help ensure a seat.

Not only did our July book sale raise a significant amount of funds for the Friends of the Talbot County Free Library to use to support the Talbot County Free Library, but it was our largest sale ever!
