Mylar balloons and power lines don't mix!

When a metallic foil, or Mylar, balloon touches a power line, it can cause power outages, fires, and injuries.

Use these tips for a safe graduation celebration:
🎈Never release Mylar balloons outdoors. Keep them indoors and attached to a weight.
🎈Do not pull them down. If a balloon becomes tangled in a power line, never attempt to pull it down yourself. Doing so turns your body into a path to the ground, which can be fatal.
🎈Report it! Stay safely away and report the tangled balloon to Easton Utilities so a professional can remove it safely.
🎈Proper disposal: when you are done with a Mylar balloon, pop it and throw it in the trash.

The Connect Talbot project is a true reflection of partnership showing what's possible when we all come together. Providing 100% access to broadband service is a milestone we have accomplished because of the dedication of our team members. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this monumental achievement. Thank you.

Congrats to Talbot County for becoming the first county in Maryland to reach 100% of locations with access to high-speed internet The infrastructure project, completed by local Internet Service Provider Easton Utilities and supported by DHCD’s Office of Statewide Broadband, provided access to high-speed Internet to more than 2,700 eligible locations across the county.

“This achievement by Talbot County and Easton Utilities signals major progress towards the Moore-Miller Administration’s objective to connect all Marylanders to high-speed internet by 2030,” said Secretary Jake Day. “Through sustained, coordinated investment and strong intergovernmental partnerships, the Office of Statewide Broadband is delivering results that make a real difference in the daily lives of Marylanders – expanding access to healthcare, education, job opportunities, and all of the benefits of the digital economy.”

“The completion of Connect Talbot is more than an infrastructure achievement, it’s a promise fulfilled to our community,” said John Horner, President and CEO of Easton Utilities. “By working hand in hand with our local, county, state, and federal partners, Easton Velocity has helped deliver universal broadband access across Talbot County. This level of partnership demonstrates what’s possible when we align around a common goal: empowering every household and business with the connectivity they need to thrive.”

“We’ve said from the beginning that everyone in Talbot County deserves access to reliable internet, no matter where they live,” said Talbot County Government Council President Chuck Callahan. “This is a big milestone for our county and something we can all be proud of. Thank you to Easton Utilities, Town of Easton, the State of Maryland, and everyone who worked together to get this done for our community.”

“We are so proud to be part of this project and to support Easton Utilities as they continue to go above and beyond for our community,” said Town of Easton Mayor Megan Cook. “Connect Talbot extends the vital resource of broadband access throughout our region, connecting our rural neighbors across the county to a faster network and enriching their quality of life. The collaboration among Easton Utilities, the Town of Easton, Talbot County, and state and federal agencies is a testament not only to the significance of this project, but also to the power of what can be accomplished when we work together.”
