Thomas Sankara, pan-Africanist, socialist and the first president of Burkina Faso, was assassinated in a foreign-backed coup on this day in 1987.

Pushing back against a history of colonialism, Sankara implemented ecological, social and economic reforms aimed at developing Burkina Faso so it wouldn't be dependent on foreign capital or dominated by imperial relations.

On Tuesday Oct. 6 at 7pm, Bethlehem City Hall will be holding a public hearing concerning data center development.

This is an opportunity for us to stand against the undemocratic push for massive data center expansion into our communities.

Currently, big capitalists are trying to decide the shape of the US economy and develop mass surveillance at the cost of everyday people's quality of life.

We need better infrastructure, green energy, healthcare, housing and so much more. When we see this enormous national role out of data centers against the peoples public outcry, it's clear whose interests carry the most weight.

As socialists, we call for democratic development aimed at benefiting everyday people.

We hope to see you on Tuesday!
