General Information

The Easton Barrack is responsible for providing full service police functions to the citizens of Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot County in concert with the County Sheriff’s Office and municipal police departments. Patrol troopers including K-9 and criminal investigators are assigned to the barrack with administrators, dispatchers, and support staff. A number of other law enforcement personnel work out of the barrack to include the homicide detectives, a polygraph operator, crime scene technicians, a crash team investigator, licensing investigator and a warrant investigator. Barrack troopers typically find themselves in a variety of situations. They respond to citizen calls for service all while enforcing traffic laws, investigating accidents and crimes, serving warrants, and conducting business and residential patrol checks. Barrack detectives investigate an array of felony crimes. Routinely, they solve robberies and burglaries while identifying those responsible for the most serious acts of violence. Through the combined efforts of patrol troopers and criminal investigators, along with an established working relationship with local leaders, allied law enforcement and the local drug task force, the citizens of Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot County continue to enjoy premier law enforcement services. The type of content will be for local community press releases, safety issues (law enforcement/local citizens), special events, child safety seat information and Bears That Care Toy Drive.

Each year, troopers from across the state come together for two days of friendly competition, teamwork, and camaraderie. After battling through a talented field of teams, the Easton Barrack troopers fought hard, stayed focused, and brought home the gold.

State Police Increasing Patrols, DUI Enforcement Efforts for a Safer Independence Day

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police are reminding motorists to drive responsibly ahead of the Fourth of July weekend.

Maryland State Troopers across the state will conduct high-visibility patrols from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5. The State Police Impaired Driving Reduction Effort (SPIDRE) team – a specialized unit trained to identify impaired drivers—will also work to reduce impaired driving-related injuries and deaths.

Maryland State Police initiatives are designed to prevent dangerous driving behaviors and to save lives. Initiatives can include partnering with allied law enforcement and state agencies to provide enforcement and community outreach via social media.

If you are attending a Fourth of July event:

Designate a sober driver. Give that person your car keys.
Avoid drinking if you are planning to drive.
Consider using public transportation. Call a taxi or use a ride-share service.
Do not let friends drive if you think they are impaired.
Call the police if you see someone who you believe is driving impaired.
Always buckle up.
Do not text, drive distracted or use a cellphone that is not hands-free.
If you are hosting a Fourth of July event:

Remember that you can be held liable if someone you served alcohol to ends up in an impaired driving crash.
Serve plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Ensure sober drivers or alternative modes of transportation are available.
Have contact information for local taxi companies readily available.
Take away the keys from anyone who is thinking about driving impaired.
A portion of the costs associated with the increased enforcement efforts will be paid through funds provided by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office.

Today, remembers Trooper First Class Shaft S. Hunter.

TFC Hunter was killed when his patrol car collided with the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of I-95 in Howard County at approximately 2:40 a.m. on this date in 2011. It is believed that he was pursuing a speeding motorcycle when the collision occurred.

Trooper First Class Hunter, 39, was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Maryland State Police for 11 years. He was survived by his six children.
