SCSG Military Academy

The Fall session began in August and includes the Basic Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, and Basic Officer Leader Course. For the past three months, students have been building core soldier and leader skills through in-rank inspections, mission prep (OPORD, WARNO, FRAGO, risk assessments), and clear brief-backs.

They also strengthened their confidence and communication through peer-to-peer instruction and oral presentations, learning how to effectively teach and train others. Drill and Ceremony continues to be emphasized as a critical foundation for every State Guardsman and Guardswoman.

Proud of the hard work and professionalism these students bring each month.

In July, we proudly celebrated graduates of the Basic Leader Course, Basic Officer Leader Course, and Captains Career Course. These soldiers chose to invest in their growth, sacrifice personal time, and commit themselves to becoming stronger leaders.

We were honored to have COL Glenn Remsen, 1CSB Commander, as our guest speaker, and grateful to Provost Marshall Detachment Unit Commander MAJ Oxendine and CPT Thomas for presenting awards to soldiers who provided outstanding service during Hurricane Helene.

We look forward to seeing the graduates take what they’ve learned back to their units—strengthening their teams and inspiring others.

The SCSG Military Academy Summer Session concluded with a field exercise that brought together students from Basic Leader Course, Basic Officer Leader Course, and Captains Career Course. Over the course of the missions in extreme heat, which allowed them to practice hydration and treating simulated heat injuries, students applied training they received throughout the session to navigate real-time injects and scenarios. The exercise reinforced the distinct rules of NCOs (tactical ex*****on) and Officers (strategic planning) while strengthening leadership, communication, and teamwork across all levels.

BG Hollingsworth, Deputy Commander of the State Guard, visited the SCSG Military Academy, where soldiers demonstrated oral presentation skills, drill and ceremony, and focused on Incident Command System to Military translation. This training ensures the State Guard can communicate effectively with emergency agencies and align efforts to successfully complete mission objectives.

At the SCSG Military Academy, part of the learning process is gaining the skills and confidence to teach others. This training prepares students to lead at every level—developing instruction from micro to macro, building and delivering effective training, and sharpening leadership, communication, and mentorship skills. It’s not just about knowing—it’s about passing that knowledge on.
