What have the firefighters been up to over the past few weeks?
Your SCANG Firefighters were focused on mastering some of the most critical firefighting and rescue techniques, practicing with ropes, water rescue skills, and essential firefighting fundamentals.
From reviewing the basics on low-angle systems to advanced mechanical advantage setups like Z‑rigs and tripods, our crews are trained to recognize hazards, rig up safe systems, and work confidently under pressure. The unit was able to utilize the skills to perform simulated rescues in three scenarios simultaneously. With the challenge of multiple victims over the side from a five-story building, to a worker trapped in an elevator shaft. With teamwork and determination, they were successful with the rescues. The friendly mannikins were thankful to be saved.
Did you know that the firefighters were able to respond to water emergencies?
While demonstrating swiftwater techniques by using throw bags, perfecting overhand, sidearm, and underhand throws to deliver life-saving lines to simulated victims in preparation for flood emergencies. The guys also honed skills on approaching survivors in the water and how to safely make contact so the responders could facilitate the rescue.
Did someone say FIRE!
Rain or shine, Heat or cold, we stay ready to respond to fire emergencies. The unit geared up and went back to the basics. From fire hose advancements, forcible entry, and rescuing rescuers. Thank you to Soda City Training for the ability to train at your facility. This allowed the unit to simulate responding to different types of structures. After the individual training, exercises were completed. A culminating event was then placed in front of the firefighters so they could step out of their comfort zone ( being placed in positions they are normally not in) to mitigate not only the simulated commercial structure fire, but also multiple downed firefighters (building collapse, lost firefighters, etc.).
We are grateful to the firefighters for their dedication to the drive and bravery to place themselves in harm's way to save others.
Ut alii vivant- “So that others may live”.
