A heartfelt thank you to Jen from the Inn at Ship Bay garden for sharing the abundance of her garden with the Orcas Island Food Bank! Today she delivered beautiful cucumbers, tomatoes, and fragrant rosemary for our shoppers to enjoy.

Donations from local growers help us provide fresh, seasonal produce while celebrating the incredible bounty of Orcas Island. We're so grateful to Jen for helping bring healthy, locally grown food to our community.

Orcas Island community partners visited the Orcas Island School District yesterday to let students know about available supports and services. A great opportunity to connect with students and faculty and introduce them to the Orcas Island Food Bank, Orcas Community Resource , The Peach Pit, and new student advocate, Joy. We look forward to feeding our students this coming school year and into the future for those who need support or community volunteer hours.

The Financial Literacy and Renters Education (FLARE) program is a FREE 8-week course designed to help you gain confidence with your finances and work toward your goals.

Topics include:
✅ Budgeting and money management
✅ Building credit and reducing debt
✅ Taxes and tax credits
✅ Rental preparation and tenant rights
✅ Goal setting and financial planning
✅ One-on-one financial coaching after the course

No income, credit, or prior experience is required—everyone is welcome!

As a single mom of a growing 13-year-old, weekends are the hardest. School meals help during the week, but when Friday comes, she worries about how she'll keep her son fed.

Thanks to the Orcas Island Food Bank's Weekend Packs for Students and Teen Tent, her son has healthy food for the weekend and nutritious snacks before soccer practice—so he can focus on learning and playing, not hunger.

💚 Our goal is to raise $15,000 to keep these vital programs stocked throughout the school year.

💚 Celebrating the Heart of the Orcas Island Food Bank 💚

Last week, we had the honor of celebrating the incredible helpers who make the Orcas Island Food Bank possible at our Volunteer Appreciation Party.

Every week, more than 40 islanders generously give their time to serve our community. They bag groceries, wash dishes, sweep corners, sort fresh produce, pack pet food, stock shelves, welcome shoppers, and lend a helping hand wherever it's needed—all with smiles, compassion, and care.

Their dedication creates a warm, welcoming place where our neighbors are treated with dignity and kindness. Simply put, we couldn't do this work without them.

To each and every one of our volunteers: thank you for showing up week after week and making a difference in the lives of so many islanders. You are truly the heart of the Orcas Island Food Bank. ❤️

La semana pasada tuvimos el honor de celebrar a las increíbles personas voluntarias que hacen posible el Banco de Alimentos de la Isla Orcas durante nuestra Fiesta de Agradecimiento a Voluntarios.

Cada semana, más de 40 miembros de nuestra comunidad donan generosamente su tiempo para servir a nuestros vecinos. Empacan alimentos, lavan platos, barren, clasifican frutas y verduras frescas, preparan alimento para mascotas, abastecen los estantes, reciben a las personas que nos visitan y siempre están dispuestos a ayudar, todo con una sonrisa, compasión y cariño.

💚✨ Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Daina! ✨💚

Behind every grocery bag packed, every shelf stocked, and every warm welcome at the Orcas Island Food Bank are amazing volunteers like Daina.

Daina has a true heart for helping others. She loves connecting with people in our community, and volunteering at the food bank has given her the opportunity to build new friendships while making a real difference in the lives of her neighbors.

But what makes her story even more special? 💚

She's passing that spirit of service on to the next generation. Her 10-year-old son volunteers alongside her, learning firsthand that kindness, compassion, and community are things we build together. Watching them serve side by side is a beautiful reminder that even small acts of generosity can inspire a lifetime of giving.

🌟 Volunteers like Daina remind us that a stronger community isn't built by one person—it's built by neighbors showing up for one another.

❤️🍖 Thank You, Matthew's Smokehouse! 🍖❤️

A huge thank you to Matthew "Chef" Carpenter, Emily Carpenter, and the entire team at Matthew's Smokehouse for their incredibly generous donation of more than 40 pounds of freshly prepared, slow-smoked barbecue for our Orcas Island Food Bank Volunteer Appreciation Party!

Because of your generosity, we were able to celebrate the amazing volunteers who give their time and energy to help keep the Food Bank running all year long. Your delicious meal made our celebration even more memorable!

Matthew shared that he was happy to give back and help support our community.

Many islanders know Matthew's Smokehouse as the former Deer Harbor Inn Restaurant. Matthew "Chef" Carpenter moved to the San Juan Islands with his family when he was just three years old and grew up at the Deer Harbor Inn after his parents took over the restaurant. Today, he continues that tradition of hospitality by serving delicious slow-smoked barbecue and classic comfort food to our community.

If you haven't visited yet, stop by and enjoy a meal!
