On Monday the Galeton Fire Protection District donated $3500.00 to the Galeton 4-H Club. These were part of the record donation funds raised in March at our Annual Chili Supper. The winner of the Blackstone Flat Top donated by Agfinity was Faye Fanning & Son. Thank you all for participating. Galeton took delivery of a "new to us" 4x4 Fire Engine equipped for both structural and wildland fires. Welcome home 2733.

If a fire escapes we will be unlikely to control it under these conditions. We are bringing on more resources to be as ready as possible. Put off hot work and fire use until we get humidities back above 40%. The live plants and trees usually insulated by their moisture are starting to burn during fires as they needed more precipitation over winter. Night time which normally sees higher humidities has been an ignition risk lately.

Crews responded to an escaped ditch burn in the vicinity of CR51 & 80. Crews immediately upgraded to a second alarm bringing Eaton Fire Protection District , Ault-Pierce Fire Department Briggsdale Fire Pr9tection and Nunn Fire Protection District. The fire was contained to 5 acres, with no structures damaged in about an hour. We had a brush truck and a tender already deployed to Platte Valley Fire Protection District for a fire south of town. We remain in mop up and patrol. We cannot emphasize how risky it is to put fire on the ground in this awful drought even for the pros supporting ag.
