The Uncle Remus Museum is happy to announce that the new roof installation has been completed on the museum and will reopen Friday morning, August 14th at 10 am.
Our summer hours will continue to be Monday - Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm with a one hour lunch break from 12-1. The museum is closed on Sundays.
Come see us!

Winter Hours begin November 1st thru February 28/29th
Monday thru Saturday: 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
No lunch break.
Closed on Sunday.

Mrs. Georgia Smith will turn 86 on Saturday, August 15th. If you would like to send her a birthday card, send it to the Uncle Remus Museum at PO Box 3184, Eatonton, GA 31024.

Here is the link to her surprise birthday drive through parade and recognition six years ago on August 15, 2020. The Covid pandemic prevented us from having an open public party but I know she felt the love from this community!

The Uncle Remus Museum will temporarily close beginning Monday, August 3rd while the roof is being replaced. This project is expected to take several days depending on the weather. An announcement will be made when the museum is ready to reopen.

FREE ADMISSION TO UNCLE REMUS MUSEUM July 3rd!
Eatonton's Uncle Remus Museum will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of our Declaration of Independence by offering free admission and storytelling on Friday, July 3, 2026.
The museum will open at 10:00 AM with storytelling at 11:00AM and 2:00PM.
Located at 214 South Oak Street (441 South) in Eatonton, the museum opened in 1963 to preserve the "Tales of Uncle Remus" which were recorded in print by native son Joel Chandler Harris.
Since opening, the museum has broadened its scope by adding the Ezell Room with an interpretation of early life in Putnam County and the "J.A. Turner Office and Library" which is a presentation of Turner's influence on young Joel Chandler Harris.
If you've never visited the museum, this is an excellent opportunity to see this historic site and its collection of "Uncle Remus" memorabilia. If you visited in the past, here's your chance to catch up on recent enhancements to the museum's collection.

Recently, our Brer Rabbit sign in front of the museum was showing some age and broke. The Board of Directors for the Uncle Remus Museum are pleased that a new sign could be completed so quickly by Mr. Fred Fielder of Oconee Custom Signs, Inc. His business is located at 819 Harmony Rd., Suite 800, Eatonton.
Our new Brer Rabbit is lookin’ mighty fine and made it here just in time to welcome everyone to Eatonton to the Dairy Festival.
The museum will have a delayed opening time on June 6th due to the parade. The doors will open 1 pm - 5 pm. Come see us.
Miss Georgia will be telling Uncle Remus stories on the square at 12:15 pm.

Come enjoy the Dairy Festival in Downtown Eatonton on Saturday, June 6th. Come early and enjoy walking through the vendors selling some unique items on the square, then find a good spot to watch the 10 am parade. Following the parade, free ice cream will be handed out right next to one of our county dairy cows on display in the portable milk barn.
Miss Georgia will be sharing some Uncle Remus tales on the courthouse stage at 12:15 pm.
The museum will be closed on Saturday morning for the festivities but will reopen at 1 pm. Come check out all the new merchandise including our first Uncle Remus museum ornament. There are just a few of the Putnam County courthouse ornaments still available.
