We are pleased to continue the partnership between Morgan County Fire Rescue and Putnam County Fire/EMS. Together, we will provide students with a Firefighter I curriculum modeled closely after the recruit academies used by modern fire departments.

Training will take place jointly, utilizing the resources, facilities, and expertise of both Morgan and Putnam Counties. This collaborative approach gives students hands-on experience in a variety of professional training environments while strengthening the partnership between our neighboring communities.

This year, we are also excited to expand the program by adding training that will lead to EMT certification, providing students with an additional opportunity to earn a valuable industry credential while still in high school.

This program is designed to prepare students to graduate workforce-ready with the knowledge, skills, and certifications needed to pursue careers in public safety. Most importantly, it is made possible through neighboring communities working together to create meaningful career opportunities for students. FIREWORKS SAFETY & PERMIT REMINDER
As we approach fireworks season, the Putnam County Fire Department – Fire Marshal's Office would like to remind residents and event organizers about fireworks safety and permitting requirements.
Consumer-grade fireworks used by individuals on private property generally do not require a permit.
A permit IS required for public fireworks displays, professional pyrotechnic displays, displays conducted by a licensed operator, or events where fireworks are being discharged as part of an organized gathering open to the public.
If you are charging admission, advertising the event to the public, or hiring a fireworks operator, contact the Fire Marshal's Office to determine if a permit is required.
Before planning a fireworks display, organizers should consider:
• Spectator separation distances
• Fallout areas
• Nearby structures and vehicles
• Emergency vehicle access
• Weather and wind conditions
• Site-specific hazards
The Fireworks Display Safety Guide provides general information regarding fallout areas, separation distances, and permit submittal requirements.
Remember, even consumer fireworks can cause serious injuries, fires, and property damage when used improperly. Always follow manufacturer instructions, maintain safe distances, and keep water readily available.
If you are unsure whether your event requires a permit, please contact the Putnam County Fire Marshal's Office before your event.
