On Saturday June 21st at 10:00 a.m. Eatonton PD Officers will be closing down Oak St. and begin diverting traffic away from the parade route. The parade will come through downtown Eatonton and turn left onto Wayne St. and then left onto Madison Ave. and then right onto Marion St. and then left back onto Washington Ave. The roadways will be reopened at the conclusion of the parade. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Effective on December 1, 2023 House Bill 121 states that the owners of multipurpose off-highway vehicles may voluntarily register their vehicles so they may be driven on COUNTY roads. Such vehicles are UTVS AND SIDE BY SIDES. The multipurpose off-highway vehicles still cannot be driven on INTERSTATES, STATE HIGHWAYS, OR CITY STREETS.

Chief Cardwell and the entire Eatonton Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Columbia County Deputy Sheriff Brandon R. Sikes who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Deputy Sikes was murdered while serving a protective order during a traffic stop. Deputy Gavin White was also shot and remains hospitalized in critical condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones and the entire Columbia County Sheriff's Dept.

Good afternoon,

Please use extreme caution when traveling the roadways within the City of Eatonton tonight. Roads have been improving today but we are still receiving alerts that Tedd Dunn road still is completely covered in black ice. Temperatures are still expected to be in the low teens tonight so stay off roads unless it's an emergency.

Please call 706-485-3551 if you have any questions.

Thank you, Chief Cardwell.

Folks, stay safe and vigilant this weekend!
