James Barbee has proudly served with the Putnam County Fire Department for a little over four years. A typical day begins with checking the fire truck and station to make sure everything is ready before responding to emergency calls throughout the county.

For James, the most rewarding part of his job is being able to help people on what may be one of the hardest days of their lives. Knowing he can make a difference during an emergency is what makes his work so meaningful.

James was inspired to become a firefighter by his father, who works for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Growing up around public service gave him a heart for helping others and led him to a career serving his community.

James describes firefighting as "the best job in the world" and encourages anyone with a passion for helping others to consider a career in the fire service.

Throughout the month of September, Putnam General Hospital is offering FREE PSA blood tests for men age 45 and older.

🔹 Monday–Friday | 8 AM–5 PM

A PSA test is a simple blood test that measures prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood. PSA levels can provide important information about prostate health and may help identify when further evaluation is needed.

Getting yours is quick and easy! Simply stop by the Putnam General Hospital front lobby, complete the sign-in paperwork, and get your blood drawn.

PCCSS is aware of the water main issue currently affecting portions of Downtown Eatonton. While a few of our facilities experienced minor impacts earlier, those issues have been resolved, and all PCCSS schools are currently operating as normal.

Should conditions change and affect school operations, we will notify families, staff, and our community as quickly as possible through our official communication channels.
