UPDATE: Due to weather delayed shoulder work being performed on Wards Chapel Road by ER Snell, the Old Phoenix Road Closure will be DELAYED to the following week (August 17th). Another announcement will be made next week.

ROAD WORK NOTICE

Road Closure – Old Phoenix Road from Wards Chapel Road to New Phoenix Road.

Beginning Monday, August 10th Old Phoenix Road will be closed to through traffic between Wards Chapel Road and New Phoenix Road for road maintenance.

The road closure will be in effect from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m each day of work. Traffic will be detoured to Wards Chapel Rd/New Phoenix Rd and will be marked with detour signs. Motorists attempting to reach an address in the work zone will be given access to do so.

Work is expected to last several days.

ROAD WORK NOTICE

Road Closure – Crooked Creek Road

Beginning Today, Wednesday, July 29, through Thursday, July 30, Crooked Creek Road will be closed to through traffic between Pea Ridge Road and Wilson Road for road maintenance.

The road closure will be in effect from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to use MLK Jr. Drive and Oconee Springs Road as alternate routes during the closure.

Beginning Monday, July 20, 2026, weather permitting, Lower Harmony Road between Alexander Road and Tanyard Road at Weaver Branch will be closed to all traffic for roadway repairs.

The closure is expected to last 2–3 days. A notice will be posted when the road reopens.

With the support of Putnam County Fire Department, Tri-County EMC, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and E911/Dispatch, Public Works Personnel worked diligently through the night and day to address downed trees throughout the county and ensure roads were cleared for safe travel. Our department will continue to focus on clearing debris from road shoulders over the next couple of weeks. Additionally, numerous culverts and ditch lines are filled with debris, which will be prioritized and addressed accordingly. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the citizens who selflessly assisted our personnel in their efforts, providing support in various capacities, including cutting trees, directing traffic, or dragging limbs by hand or with their own vehicles. Your contributions are greatly valued.

Update: Lower Harmony is Open

!Attention: Road Closing Announcement!

Due to heavy rain in the forecast and expected flooding, Lower Harmony Road at Weaver Branch, between Alexander Road and Tanyard Road, will be CLOSED at 6:00 p.m. today, June 18. The road will reopen at an undetermined time on Friday.

The reason for the closure is two weeks ago, heavy rains and floods damaged the roadway over the creek. Although temporary repairs have been made, a permanent fix is still in progress. However, given the forecasted amount of rain, it is possible that flooding will overwhelm the temporary repairs, and therefore, in the interest of public safety, we are closing the road.

UPDATE: New Phoenix Road is open for travel

New Phoenix Road between Old Phoenix Road and Little Circle is CLOSED due to a low-hanging transmission line resulting from a vehicle crash. The duration of the closure is unknown at this time.

Good morning Putnam. We have received multiple reports of damage resulting from the recent flooding rains. Our personnel have been diligently working throughout the weekend to rectify all storm water damage. Due to flooding and road damage, the area of Lower Harmony Road near Weaver Branch, between Alexander Road and Tanyard Road is CLOSED. The road is anticipated to reopen at the earliest tomorrow (6/1/26) afternoon.
