Training builds TRUST!

The Eatonville Police Department recently conducted comprehensive Active Shooter Response and Building Search Training as part of the Department’s continued commitment to officer readiness, operational effectiveness, and community safety.

The training provided officers with realistic scenarios designed to strengthen their ability to respond quickly and effectively during critical incidents. Officers practiced coordinated response techniques, building searches, team movement, communication, threat identification, and decision-making under rapidly changing conditions.

Extreme Heat Bulletin

The Eatonville Police Department continues to stress and encourage effective practices for heat exposure and exhaustion. The major heat wave is expected through this weekend, with below-normal rain chances, high pressure aloft, and high humidity creating unusually hot conditions through at least the weekend.
Heat Advisory Issued Again for East Central Florida.

Afternoon temperatures in the mid 90s, combined with high humidity, will produce peak heat indices of 108 to 112 degrees across the advisory area. The greatest heat impacts are expected along and north of the I-4 corridor.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of east central Florida from 10 AM-8 PM today. Additional heat Advisories will be likely through at least Friday.

A Major Heat Risk is forecast across portions of east central Florida into the weekend, meaning heat-related impacts are possible for anyone without adequate cooling or hydration. If spending extended periods outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade or in air conditioning and stay well hydrated.

The Eatonville Police Department sends condolences to the Leesburg Police Department Family, who lost one of their staff, Sergeant John Hollowell:

Yesterday morning, we received the sad and tragic news that LPD Sergeant John Hollowell passed away suddenly, in Ocala.

After serving our nation in the United States Army, Sergeant Hollowell began his career with the Leesburg Police Department on October 17, 2002. Sergeant Hollowell served with great pride and zeal throughout his twenty-four-year career, and he received multiple awards and commendations for his outstanding service. During his tenure, he worked as a K9 handler, SWAT officer, Task Force Officer, and as a Criminal Investigator before taking over Squad 3 as their patrol sergeant in August of 2024.

Sergeant Hollowell was a courageous leader and was well-loved by everyone at the police department. More importantly, John was a devoted family man to his wife, Carla, and a dedicated father to his children, Chase and Abigail. He often spoke about his family with deep dedication and devotion.

While Sergeant Hollowell ended his journey on earth yesterday, his legacy will continue on through the officers he mentored and the family he so deeply loved. Please, keep his family, friends and colleagues in your prayers during this difficult time...Thank you.

Fraud and Scams Awareness

Fraudsters may consistently call from a number and make false claims of debit or credit card fraud. In some cases, they will even attempt to instruct you to cut up your card and leave it in a mailbox for pickup.

This act of thievery allows the fraudster to change the PIN and continue using the card.

Learn your financial institution's methods of proactively reaching their customers.

Please stay vigilant to NOT:

Share your password, PIN, or any one-time verification code
Provide your card number (including CVV or last 6–8 digits) or full Social Security number
Purchase gift cards or cryptocurrency
Send money to yourself, another person, or another account
Cut up, destroy, or leave your card anywhere
Withdraw cash and hand it to someone
Shred any unneeded documents that deal with finances

If you're unsure whether an interaction is legitimate, end the conversation and contact your institution directly using the number on the back of your card or make a walk-in visit.

The Eatonville Police Department proudly invites all residents, business owners, and places of worship to participate in our Severe Weather Preparedness Initiative tommorow morning at 10am.

This community outreach opportunity is designed to provide practical knowledge, effective preparedness strategies, and emergency response guidance to help protect lives and property before, during, and after severe weather events.

Participants will learn how to develop emergency plans, prepare disaster supply kits, understand evacuation procedures, safeguard homes and businesses, and access local emergency resources.

Through education, collaboration, and effective preparedness, we can build a safer, stronger, and more resilient Eatonville community.
