Thank you to Samuel Delgado and Central Florida Jobs with Justice for holding this space and carrying this conversation with so much intention. Sitting alongside Representative Maxwell Alejandro Frost, Protect Borrowers, Poverty Solutions Group, Community Legal Services, and so many familiar faces in this work reminded me that we are not alone in what we are fighting for.
$17.3 billion in student loan debt in Orlando alone. Teachers living in extended stays and visiting food banks while telling students that education is the way forward.
Families being offered "rent now pay later" products with no oversight and massive late fees. What was once called predatory is becoming normalized.
Eimear Roy said it best: "Even though Florida is flat, there are so many hills to fight on."
That is exactly why H.E.L.P. CDC exists. We have been in this community since 1996 working on housing stability, financial readiness, and generational wealth because the dream does not get easier on its own. Someone has to stand in the gap.
Grateful for the room. Grateful for the work. Look forward to what's to come.
