Making newbie mistakes when signing up for Medicare can cost you money for the rest of your life. You could end up with coverage gaps, higher monthly bills, and unexpected medical costs in retirement. Many of these decisions can’t be undone, so it’s important to get them right the first time.

You don't have to figure out Medicare on your own. Your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program is ready to guide you every step of the way, helping you understand enrollment timelines, check your eligibility, compare plans, and even appeal coverage decisions.

Sharing silly moments with family is important. Sharing Medicare numbers with people who ask for it over the phone, through email, or at the door is risky.

If you have a family member or take care of someone over 65, talk to them about never sharing their Medicare number to unsolicited requests. This is likely a scam and could lead to medical identity theft.
