Eau Claire County is hiring a Case Worker – Recovery & Justice Services Liaison!

This second-shift position (3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.) is based at the Eau Claire Police Department and works closely with law enforcement through the Co-Response Program to support individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, homelessness, or trauma-related concerns.

Key responsibilities include:
• Crisis assessment and intervention
• Case management and service coordination
• Assisting patrol officers with mental health response
• Connecting individuals and families with community resources
• Collaborating across multiple agencies to provide effective support services

For Eau Claire and Chippewa County residents: A Public Hearing is scheduled to address the future expansion of County T in Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties.

The public hearing is planned for Wednesday, June 24, at The Crescent at the Eau Claire Events District 5775 20th Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54703. The public hearing will be conducted from 5-7pm. Interested persons may attend starting at 5pm to review displays and other hearing materials, ask questions and provide testimony.

The traditional-style portion of the public hearing will begin at 5:30 and end at 7pm, or when all interested persons have provided testimony, whichever occurs last. The traditional-style portion of the public hearing will begin with a presentation prior to accepting traditional-style testimony from the public.

NEWS: County T Expansion Project: Public hearing set to address future expansion of County T in Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties

Eau Claire County, in partnership with Chippewa County, city of Eau Claire, towns of Union and Wheaton, and Wisconsin Department of Transportation, is holding a public hearing to discuss the location, design and environmental aspects of proposed improvements on County T.

Public Hearing: Wednesday, June 24, at The Crescent at the Eau Claire Events District 5775 20th Ave. Eau Claire, WI 54703. The public hearing will be conducted from 5-7 p.m.

Interested persons may attend starting at 5 p.m. to review displays and other hearing materials, ask questions and provide testimony.
The traditional-style portion of the public hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will end at 7 p.m. or when all interested persons have provided testimony, whichever occurs last.

The traditional-style portion of the public hearing will begin with a presentation prior to accepting traditional-style testimony from the public.

The proposed improvements would include:
• Expanding County T from two lanes to four lanes, separated by a raised median
o Phase 1: 17th Avenue to 33rd Avenue (proposed construction year 2027-2028)
o Phase 2: Alpine Road to 17th Avenue (proposed construction year 2030-2031)
• Constructing roundabouts at 10th Avenue, 20th Avenue, and 30th Avenue
• Improving and/or reconfiguring other intersections
• Constructing pedestrian and bicycle facilities
• Modifying driveway access (right-in, right-out access only)
• Constructing a box culvert under 30th Avenue

Improvements could result in potential relocation of properties, permanent right-of-way acquisition of 57 acres, temporary limited easements involving 3.2 acres, and impacts to 0.18 acres of wetlands.

The public is encouraged to attend the public hearing to learn more about the proposed improvements and provide input. Project maps and other information will be on display and project staff will be available to explain the proposed improvements and answer questions. Information on how to present verbal and written testimony will be provided at the public hearing.

The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible. Deaf or hard of hearing persons needing assistance may contact the project manager, Scott Whitsett, via the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System (dial 711). To allow time for arranging assistance, please call no later than three working days prior to the hearing.
To allow time to arrange assistance for any persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP), please contact the project manager, Scott Whitsett, no later than ten (10) working days prior to the public hearing.

Provisions have been made for the public to submit written statements or other exhibits in place of, or in addition to, the testimony presented at the public hearing. This additional testimony can be submitted via phone, email, or US Mail and will be included in the hearing record if postmarked/received no later than Friday, July 10. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds us that bicycle safety is a two-way street:

🚗 Motorists:
• Slow down
• Look twice before changing lanes, turning, or opening your door
• Share the road
• Never drive in bike lanes
• Stay at least three feet from bicyclists

🚴 Bicyclists:
• Obey traffic laws, signs and signals
• Be visible and wear a helmet
• Use hand signals

On behalf of the Eau Claire County Opioid Task Force, Eau Claire County has awarded funding to three community agencies to expand treatment and recovery support services.

These awards are part of the county’s three-year opioid settlement plan focused on reducing misuse, preventing overdoses, and strengthening community support.

Funded projects (April–Dec 2026):
⭐️Wisconsin Milkweed Alliance – peer-led recovery & harm reduction drop-in center
⭐️ Bridge2Healthcare – mobile clinic providing free, street-based care & overdose prevention
⭐️YMCA of the Chippewa Valley – expansion of the Sober Strong recovery program

In total, $50,000 was awarded through this process, with nearly $700,000 planned in 2026 to support prevention, recovery, harm reduction, and justice system programs.

Together with community partners, Eau Claire County is working to reduce opioid-related harm and strengthen pathways to recovery.
