We are a combination full-time and paid on call municipal fire department responsible for fire prevention, education, suppression, and investigation. Next week is the big day for National Night Out! 🚓🚒

📍 Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 5:30p to 8p at River Prairie Park

Here is a map and some things to expect at NNO:
- Free Entry
- Free Raffle Prize Ticket (One Per Child-Officers will be handing them out near the children’s prize table)
- Bring Donation Items for the Altoona Care Closet for Adult Raffle Prize Tickets (One Ticket per $5 Value)
- Don't Need to be Present to Win Prizes (Winners Drawn at 7:30p)
- Free Hotdog, Chips & Water (One Per Person, While Supplies Last)
- Food Trucks on site for purchase
- Free Cotton Candy & Popcorn (One Per Person, While Supplies Last)
- 30+ Vendor Booths to Visit for Games & Prizes

Air quality has definitely deteriorated this afternoon.

As expected, smoke from wildfires in Northern Minnesota and Canada have drifted into our area. Please do not call 911 to report the general smoke in the air. Here are some tips from the Eau Claire City-County Health Department while the smoke is heaviest in our area:

⚠️ Higher risk groups:
• Children and older adults
• People with asthma, COPD, or heart disease
• Pregnant people
• Anyone who works or exercises outdoors

🏠 What you can do:
• Limit outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise
• Keep windows closed and run your A/C or air purifier on recirculate
• If you must be outside, an N95/KN95 mask can help reduce exposure
• Watch for symptoms like coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, or unusual fatigue
• Reach out to a doctor if you’re struggling to breathe

On Tuesday, July 7th, Chief Renderman presented Rodger Frye Jr. with a plaque honoring the 28 years of service that Rodger provided to the City of Altoona before retiring in 2025. Rodger held several ranks of service of the years. Rodger's family was also on hand. Congratulations Rodger! Thank you for all your years of service to the community!
