UW-Eau Claire College Democrats

UW-Eau Claire College Democrats This is the official page for the UW-Eau Claire College Democrats. We meet weekly every Thursday at 5:00 in Centennial 2931.

Meetings are fairly casual and always a fun time. They can last from 30 minutes to a full hour depending on the agenda at hand. Regular attendance may not be required, but you'll find that our get-togethers become addictive fairly quick. Don't worry about showing up late in the semester. New faces are a pleasant surprise regardless of your major or program; this is far from a club for political sc

ience majors. We're proud of our academic diversity and are always looking for students of all intellectual pursuits and career paths. Make sure to bring your friends along to join in on the fun we have throughout the academic year!

Thank you to everyone who showed up to our first meeting this semester! (and won a free plant 🪴)

The WI Supreme Court election this April will determine whether Wisconsin has a democracy. Without a doubt, young voters will play a major role in deciding the outcome. UWEC College Democrats are going all in, and we can hope you can consider contributing financially to our efforts to bring young voters out to the polls today.

At the end of last school year, we had around only 5 active members. But, with hard work and perseverance, we shattered meeting attendance expectations and brought engaging guest speakers in.

But more importantly, UWEC College Democrats brought out students in record numbers to the polls in November, and in February, where voter turnout shot up 656% and progressives got 90% of the on campus vote.

UWEC College Democrats are ready to go all in on this election. From direct mailings to digital ads, we are pulling out all the stops to defeat right-wing extremist Dan Kelly this April. However, we can't do it alone. Please contribute today. Thank you!!

If you prefer cash or check, thats fine too!! just make checks out to UWEC College Democrats, and deliver it in person or mail it to the Eau Claire County Democratic Resource Center, at 440 Broadway St.

Show your support with a contribution.

Angela Davis grew up in a very segregated part of Birmingham Alabama. In her early years, neighborhoods around hers were targeted in violent attacks by the K*K. This influenced her to join the Black Panthers and an all black wing of the communist party when she was a young woman. She went on to teach for a time at UCLA until her radical political ties caused them to fire her. Later on she was arrested for trying to help George Jackson, a black radical, escape from jail. Eventually after serving time she was acquitted. She then began teaching, lecturing, and speaking at various events in order to spread the message of black liberation.

On this day in 1934, baseball’s all-time Home Run King was born in Mobile, Alabama. Hank Aaron began his career in the Negro Leagues, then in the Minors including the Eau Claire Bears, and then 23 seasons in the MLB. Hammerin’ Hank spent 21 seasons with the Braves, the first 12 in Milwaukee and 9 in Atlanta after the team had moved. He then came back and played his last couple seasons for the Milwaukee Brewers. Just as much as we should remember the phenomenal hitter he was, we should also remember his incredible work as a Civil Rights advocacy off the field. We invite you to research the phenomenal life of Hank Aaron!
