๐ธ๐ฆ๏ธ SPRING & SUMMER SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS ๐ช๏ธโ๏ธ๐
Spring and summer storms can be severe which can bring torrential rains and strong winds. Prepare your home now to limit possible damage to your home and property.
โข SEVERE WEATHER WATCH โ Conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop such as tornadoes, large hail, or damaging winds.
โข SEVERE WEATHER ADVISORY โ Issued for less serious hazardous weather conditions that are occurring or are imminent such as minor flooding or strong winds.
โข SEVERE WEATHER WARNING โ Indicates that dangerous, life-threatening weather is occurring, imminent, or highly likely. A warning means you should take immediate shelter or protective action. This could include a tornado, severe thunderstorm, high winds, or flash flooding.
*** NOTE: Hail is a precursor that severe weather is imminent or is occurring.
** Keep cells phones charged.
** Keep flashlights with extra batteries on-site.
DO NOT USE CANDLES AS A LIGHTING SOURCE.
** Take shelter indoors or in a vehicle during thunderstorms. Trees and dugouts do not offer safe protection.
** Test sump pumps to ensure they are working properly and ready to operate
during heavy rain(s).
** Raise valuable storage higher off the surface in areas prone to basement flooding.
** Clear debris from gutters and downspouts to prevent leaks and water buildup.
** Clear debris blocking street/storm drains near your residence.
** Secure any loose items in your yard and driveway, and on your porch and patio.
** DO NOT operate gasoline or propane emergency generators indoor. They will produce deadly carbon monoxide gas.
** Stay away from any downed electrical lines.
** When taking shelter during a tornado or severe thunderstorm โ shelter on the lowest floor possible - away from glass and loose objects. Cover your head with pillows, blankets, cushions, etc.
** Keep bottled water and a small supply of non-perishable food available โ especially supplies for infants and small children.
** Do not drive into or through flooded roadways. As little as six inches (6โ) of water can float a car. Turn around โ donโt drown.
** Do not let children play in fast-moving water. Stay away from manholes and drainage pipes.
** Be sure to remember your pets during potential, imminent, or actual severe weather.
