Unfortunately we have recently been receiving more complaints about scams and fraud. Typically the scammer will ask for personal information (like bank or basic demographic information) or will try to get the victim to buy bitcoin or gift cards as payment. Scammers will often say they are with a legitimate company (like Internet or cable company) or with law enforcement.

No legitimate company will accept gift cards or bitcoin as payment.

Please talk to your family, especially the elderly , about these scams so they are aware and know what to look for.

*we are currently assisting Cambria County Adult Probation in an attempt to find this male, last seen wearing a dark colored hoodie, dark colored pants, and may still have a handcuff on. The male fled from probation and has an active warrant* if seen , please call the non emergency number for Cambria County 814-472-2100

To be clear, if you are in a situation which makes you feel unsafe , please call us. That is one of our primary job functions. Second, we are not criticizing the complainant involved in that incident, as some of the actions taken by the other party could be perceived as out of the ordinary. The reason for the post yesterday was to inform the public we received the complaint, took it seriously, investigated it, but found no evidence of a crime or continued threat to the public.
