Today, we pause as a nation to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday — it is a reminder that our freedom was purchased through courage, selflessness, and devotion to something greater than oneself. We honor those who never made it home, the families who carry their memory forward, and the legacy of service that continues to inspire generations.

At the Cambria County Prison, we proudly remember and honor America’s fallen heroes today and every day. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, the Cambria County Prison family came together to honor and remember former Cambria County Prison Corrections Officer Calvin Ates.

Although Calvin’s career later brought him elsewhere, he began his service here at Cambria County Prison, and he will always remain a part of our family. Today’s memorial service reflected the impact he had on those around him — as an officer, coworker, friend, and person who touched many lives in his short time with us.
The candle lighting, memorial reflections, ceremonial folding of the American flag, and fellowship shared today served as reminders that the bond within corrections is one that lasts far beyond the walls of any one institution.
At only 27 years old, Calvin’s passing is a heartbreaking loss. While words can never fully ease that pain, we hope today brought comfort, support, and a reminder that he will never be forgotten.

Please continue to keep Calvin’s family, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Officer Ates. Your watch has ended, but your memory will remain with us always.

Today, we mourn the loss of former Cambria County Prison Corrections Officer Calvin Ates.

Although Officer Ates was no longer serving within our facility, he will always remain a part of the Cambria County Prison family. His dedication, service, and commitment to the profession will never be forgotten by those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Corrections work creates a bond that lasts far beyond the walls of a facility. Once you become part of this family, you are always part of this family.

Rest easy, Officer Ates.
You will never be forgotten.
