Preserving Food at Home Resource Guide

Those interested in home food preservation, from beginners to advanced home food preservers, can purchase the Penn State Extension publication, "Preserving Food at Home Resource Guide," as part of a summer special discount from July 1 to Aug. 31.

This guide serves as a compilation of "Let's Preserve" fact sheets; research-based guidelines for safely canning, freezing, dehydrating and freeze-drying food at home; and nutrition and storage information.

Southwest Pennsylvania Regional Dairy Day

The "Southwest Pennsylvania Regional Dairy Day" is an annual event supported by agribusiness sponsors and designed to deliver practical, research-based education for those involved in dairy production across Pennsylvania. The 2026 program features an on-farm learning experience structured in a rotational format, allowing participants to move through small-group sessions and engage directly with speakers and peers. This interactive setting fosters meaningful discussion and the exchange of ideas to support informed decision-making and strengthen dairy operations.

Sessions will include a dairy producer panel sharing perspectives on farm succession and transition planning, a forage management rotation addressing transitions from alfalfa to grass hay, a dairy nutrition session featuring the Penn State Extension Feeding Assessment Program, and a rotation focused on transition cows and selective preventative management practices. Each rotation is designed to encourage discussion and provide practical, take-home insights that can be applied on the farm.

In addition to the educational sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to visit with industry partners during the trade show and enjoy a complimentary lunch, making the day both informative and engaging.
