📬 The August edition of the Echo Newsletter is here! This month, we’re highlighting the people, businesses, history and projects that make Echo special. You’ll meet Assistant to the Administrator Ameta Nelson, and we’re also proud to recognize Morgan Harris, an Echo High School sophomore and member of the Umatilla County Fair Court! 🎉 You’ll get to know the family behind H&P Café, learn about our new commingled recycling system and what can — and cannot — go in your recycling bin, and take a trip back in time with the Echo History Corner featuring the Utilla Indian Agency. We also have an update on the Phase 3 Water Plan and pump replacement, a reminder about new school-zone traffic signs, a thank-you to our Echo Fire volunteers, and a look at what’s happening around town in August, including the Father Daughter Dance on August 22.

⚠️ Echo Hills Golf Course Update ⚠️

Because of a water pipe break inside the clubhouse, Echo Hills Golf Course is closed to the public for the remainder of today while crews work to make the necessary repairs. This temporary closure is to ensure the safety of our visitors and staff.

Golf course members are still welcome to play. Please note that there will be no access to the clubhouse, and golf cart availability may be limited during this time.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

We anticipate reopening for normal business at 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Temporary Reduction in Water Pressure Expected Beginning Monday, July 20

Echo, Ore. — The City of Echo would like to inform residents living near the Echo Hills Golf Course, that additional work is required to complete the installation of the City’s new water system booster pump as part of the ongoing Phase III Water System Improvement Project.

Beginning Monday, July 20, crews will complete the remaining work on the booster pump. We apologize for the late notice. As work has progressed, the contractor identified additional improvements that need to be completed to ensure the new booster pump system operates safely and reliably for years to come.

Water service is not expected to be interrupted. However, residents may experience reduced water pressure for approximately two to three days while crews complete the remaining work. The City is working closely with the contractor to minimize any inconvenience and restore the system to full operating capacity as quickly as possible.

The contractor and the City’s Public Works Department will continue working diligently to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.

“We understand this may be an inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate our residents’ patience and understanding,” said City Administrator Mike Gonzalez. “These final improvements are an important investment in Echo’s water infrastructure and will help provide a more reliable water system for our community well into the future.”

Blue Mountain All-Stars Bound for Arizona. 6 players from Echo help win the Championship! Community Support Needed!

The Blue Mountain Little League Juniors Girls All-Star Team is headed back to the West Regional Tournament after capturing both the District 3 Championship in Pendleton and the Oregon State Championship in Hood River. The team will now represent the State of Oregon at the West Regional Tournament in Tucson, Arizona, for the second consecutive year.

The championship squad is made up of talented young athletes from throughout the region, including six players from Echo, one from Stanfield, and four from Heppner, making this a true community success story.

"We are extremely proud of these young ladies and excited about the opportunity to represent Echo, Stanfield and Heppner," said Coach Todd Longgood

Water System Update – Thank You for Your Patience

We’re happy to report that the new water lines have now been connected, and full water pressure should be restored within the next hour as of 9 p.m.

NOTE: Once water is restored you may not feel as much water pressure. We've decided to wait to turn on the booster pump until Friday morning. This will allow the water to cycle through and avoid having to work in the dark if something was to go wrong. As of now, things are looking good! Full pressure should be restored by noon Friday.

We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding throughout today’s work. Projects like this can present unexpected challenges, but they are an important part of our ongoing investment in Echo’s water system and will help improve the reliability of service for years to come.

A special thank you goes out to our dedicated Public Works team, who have now put in a 15-hour day to complete this project and are staying until the job is finished. Their hard work, professionalism, and commitment to our community do not go unnoticed.

Thank you again for your patience and support as we continue making these important upgrades to Echo’s water infrastructure.

Water Service Update – Thank You for Your Patience

The City of Echo would like to thank the residents around Golf Course Road, Cottage Lane, and Smith Drive for your continued patience as work continues on the Phase 3 Water System Improvement Project.

Our contractor has encountered some unforeseen challenges during the installation process, which have resulted in additional intermittent water shutoffs for customers in these areas. While these unexpected issues have extended the work, crews are actively on-site and working diligently to complete the project and restore reliable water service as quickly and safely as possible.

We understand how disruptive these interruptions can be and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while these critical infrastructure improvements are completed. This project is a significant investment in Echo’s water system and will help improve the long-term reliability and performance of our community’s water infrastructure.

We will continue to provide updates as work progresses. Thank you again for your cooperation and support.

Congratulations to Jeana Hampton on her appointment to the Echo City Council Tuesday evening!

Councilor Hampton has dedicated many years of service to the Echo community, including serving four years as mayor and volunteering on numerous city committees and organizations. Her experience, leadership and commitment to public service will be a tremendous asset as she returns to help guide our community.

We're excited to welcome Councilor Hampton into public service once again, and look forward to working together for the future of Echo and the surrounding community!
