In 2005, Elmore County High School celebrated a landmark birthday - 100 years. ECHS opened her doors in 1905 under the name Eclectic High School. However, those who attended had to pay tuition because the community couldn't afford to operate a school. Finally in 1910 the county of Elmore became eligible for county high school - and Elmore County High School was born and officially opened her doors

under her new name on September 19, 1911. On February 24, 1913 and again in 1914, the school was destroyed by fires. The town kept rebuilding and they were determined that the school would stay open. As a result, for over a year ECHS was housed in temporary quarters. Once rebuilt the second time, the school continued to grow and in 1934 two new wings were added. In 1935, the Southern Association of Secondary School and Colleges granted her accreditation and has maintained that accreditation for the past 74 years. As the school population increased, tragedy struck once more, when fire destroyed the building again. Elmore County High was rebuilt and reopened her doors in 1940 and she still stands today. Major renovations were completed in 1985 to the main building and the annex and in 1994 a new cafeteria was built. In 1996 the library was moved to the cafeterias old home. Finally, in 2000 Elmore County High school became a 9th thru 12th grade school. A new middle school was built and the 7th and 8th graders moved "down the hill". Recent projects include a new band room dedicated in the fall of 2006, renovation of the home section of Burt-Haynie Field in 2007, and renovation of the old band room into a technology classroom in 2008. When the doors opened in 1905, she housed approximately 75 students. Today over 540 students walk her halls on any given day. As we continue to grow we do not know what the future holds . . . but we can never forget the many individuals who once attended this school and were proud to be apart of her memories.

Senior Spotlight: Myah Oliver
Myah Oliver hopes to attend Montevallo University and major in pre-med to pursue optometry as a career. And, she would like to minor in the arts, a passion she hopes to develop. Before transferring to Elmore County High school Myah attended a Biomedical Science Academy and participated in the art club. Since transferring, she has taken an additional 2 advanced art classes, become involved in art related events like Homecoming, and is now the president of the ECHS Art Club. Her friends have always inspired her, her teachers have supported her, and her family have lifted her up. She is especially thankful to her parents for going the extra mile to foster her love of learning and creativity.

One RANDOM fact from Myah: I went to EES (shout out to Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Davis!) before moving to Florida where I lived for ten years. So a few of my senior classmates went to my 6th birthday party (although we may not remember)!

Senior Spotlight: Camden McMillan

After high school, Cam plans on pursuing training and a career in IT. Camden is a member of MAT, NEHS, FCCLA, BETA, and the boy’s soccer team at ECHS.

Cam and his parents "appreciate every single person at ECHS; you welcomed Camden in his Freshman year and helped form the young man he is today. Thank you to all of our family and village for each role you have played in Camden’s life. And without God, none of his accomplishments are possible."

When asked to describe ECHS in one word: Amazing

One random fact: Camden came into this world dramatically and hasn’t let up or slowed down once.

This is an urgent request to our community, parents, guardians, and students…I need your help in educating our young people before their “pranks” go too far and some teenager ends up in court. I use the term “prank” loosely as the things I hear are not funny. I know around Homecoming our students participate in rolling yards and have done so for many years. If things don’t “clean up,” our students may lose the ability to do any rolling, or “class wars” as they call it, either by our local law enforcement shutting it down or by the school having to step in. I know it’s not all of our students, and to the ones who are just out having fun, thank you. Unfortunately when some mess up, it messes it up for everyone.

We have some who have added things such as food, eggs, and other things that can potentially cause damage. Honestly it just isn’t funny and could possibly result in criminal charges by property owners. We also have reports that students have been at local businesses and made messes in parking lots of the same establishments that help support our schools, and it is not okay.

To our students, vandalism and damaging people’s property is not okay. Most of our familes are okay with rolling as long as it’s done in jest and part of the tradition that students have set over the years. Students, only interact with familes and students you know, and quit doing things that could affect your future. Be smart and make good decisions; it’s not okay to be mean and destructive.

Talk to your students. I will address them and let them know the expectations at school today during FLEX.
