To the parents of the students of Elmore County High School. The Eclectic Police Department conducted a security check of the high school. K9's were used to check for weapons and illegal narcotics. I am pleased to inform you that none of these items were found. There were several rumors that were put out on social media from the lock down that a person was on the property with a weapon and some other false information. The Eclectic Police Department would like to thank the staff and the students of Elmore County High for their cooperation.

⚠️🔥‼️Fire Alert Issued for Alabama⚠️🔥‼️

Posted: 09/25/2019

The Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has upgraded the recent Fire Danger Advisory to a statewide Fire Alert effective immediately. While under a Fire Alert, permits for outdoor burning will be restricted and issued on an individual basis at the discretion of the State Forester. Anyone who burns a field, grassland, or woodland without a burn permit may be subject to prosecution for committing a Class B misdemeanor.

This burning restriction is being issued because of the current drought situation, continued lack of precipitation, and high probability of fuel ignition. With this extremely dry weather, conditions are such that any fire can quickly spread out of control, not only resulting in damage to our forests but also threatening lives and destroying property. Over the last week, AFC wildland firefighters have responded to 182 wildfires across Alabama, burning approximately 2,608 acres. These numbers include a 470-acre fire in Talladega County, one for 391 acres in DeKalb County, and several which were over 100 acres, but they do not reflect the numerous fires suppressed by volunteer fire departments (VFDs) across the state. The local VFDs are great partners to the AFC in times of high fire occurrence.

This Fire Alert will remain in effect until rescinded by the State Forester, at which time conditions will have changed sufficiently to reduce the occurrence and frequency of wildfires. To report a wildfire, call the Alabama Forestry Commission at (800) 392-5679. For more information on the current wildfire situation in the state or any other forestry-related issues, contact your local AFC office or visit the agency website at www.forestry.alabama.gov/Pages/Fire/Totals.aspx. The Alabama Forestry Commission is the state agency committed to protecting Alabama’s invaluable forest assets as well as its citizens.

To find the number and size of wildfires occurring in Alabama over a defined time frame, specify a county or statewide and the time period you want the information to cover. To see each fire included in the list, click on the sign before the table.

Eclectic Fire Department

At approximately 3:30 this morning, Eclectic Fire Department was dispatched to the 11000 block of Georgia Road for a structure fire with confirmed entrapment (person still inside the structure). At 3:37, units arrived on-scene to find a single-story structure that was well-involved. Upon arrival, it was determined that two neighbors had rescued the entrapped resident from the structure through a window. Units worked to extinguish the fire while Eclectic Fire Department’s EMS personnel treated and transported the victim. Units extinguished the fire without further incident or injury. At this time, the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

According to witnesses, prior to the fire department’s arrival a passerby knocked on the neighbor’s door to alert them to the house fire and asked if they knew who lived in the home. Unsure if the occupant was home, the neighbors rushed over to get the occupant’s dog so that the dog wasn’t harmed. While looking for the dog in the yard, the neighbors heard a loud moaning noise coming from the bedroom window. One of the neighbors, Tyler McLeod of Eclectic, tried to enter the home to look for the victim but was unable to enter due to the fire and debris. At that time, he and another neighbor, Joshua Donahey of Eclectic, removed the air conditioning window-unit from the window and the two neighbors were able to rescue the victim through the window. At this point, the occupant had suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for stabilization and then transported by helicopter to UAB Hospital. The victim is currently in critical condition. Without the actions of these two neighbors, it is almost certain that the occupant would not have escaped the structure and would have succumbed to his injuries. The Eclectic Fire Department and the Town of Eclectic would like to thank these citizens for their actions, disregarding their own safety while saving another.

Due to the entrapment, Tallassee, Santuck, Red Hill and Kowaliga Fire Departments also responded. There were 35 Firefighters and 13 apparatus on-scene representing the different departments. Eclectic Police Department and Elmore County Sheriff’s Office also responded. We would like to thank all of the responders for their assistance.

If you have any further questions, please contact the Public Information Officer, Lt. Andrew Wood, at [email protected].

As most of you know we were hit by a tornado this afternoon, all of the roads in the area with the exception of N Ann St are cleared and open for traffic. We do however ask that you stay off of the roads due to debris still being on the sides of the roads and some in power lines above the road. Luckily we have had no reports of injuries in our area. We were very fortunate compared to what our neighbors in Wetumpka are dealing with. Keep Wetumpka in your prayers.

The 1800 to 2100 block of North Ann Street in Eclectic will be closed due to low hanging power lines. Please stay away from this area until further notice.

At 2018 Wednesday night EFD responded to the 3000 block of Claud Rd for a woods fire. EPD arrived on scene first and found a man who had been severely burned. EFD’s EMS transported the patient to the high school practice field where Haynes lifeflight transported him to a hospital for treatment. In the meantime the fire was brought under control. The State Fire Marshals Office is investigating the incident due to injuries caused by fire. We would like to thank EPD, ECSO, HLF, and the Fire Marshals for assisting us tonight.
