📢 City of Ector Announcement
The City of Ector would like to announce a recent transition in city leadership.
Mayor Colton Whisenhunt has resigned from his position due to relocating to a new home outside the city. We sincerely thank Colton for his dedicated service to the City of Ector and the time he invested in our community. We wish him and his family nothing but success and happiness in this new chapter of their lives.
Following his resignation, the City Council has appointed Greg Garrison to serve as Mayor.
Greg brings a wealth of experience and a long history of public service to this role. Throughout his career as a sheriff’s deputy and police officer, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving and protecting the community. During his tenure as Ector Police Chief, Greg played an instrumental role in city operations, including the development of city ordinances, grant writing efforts, and assisting in numerous aspects of municipal management to help ensure the smooth operation of city services.
The City of Ector congratulates Mayor Greg Garrison on his appointment and welcomes him to his new role. We look forward to his continued dedication, leadership, and service to our community.

To follow up on the question of the mayor being an elected position. The position mayor is an elected official and there was an election. However, when the elected mayor resigns or leaves office, it is the responsibility of the council to fill the position. The person that is put in that position holds it until the end of the term. If they wish to remain in office they will have to be re-elected into the position.
