Got a few pictures doing the Great Backyard Bird count today. It was cold and windy so most were staying in the heavy brush to stay warm.

Migration Alert! It's going to be massive this weekend, with an estimated 316 million to 400+ million migrating birds on the wing each night, according to BirdCast. Warmer colors on the map show where migration will be most intense. This should make for great birdwatching—and it's also a good time to turn off nonessential indoor and outdoor lights to avoid disorienting birds. Sadly, light pollution and unsafe windows contribute to the hundreds of millions of birds estimated to die in building collisions in the U.S. every year. Fledgling = a bird that has just left the nest but is still learning to fly. If you see a young bird that is covered in feathers and can stand or hop, please let it be. The parents are nearby finding food for their child. Don't birdnap! Not sure? Send us a photo.

Started the Great Backyard Bird count yesterday and sad to say I have not seen a single Bluebird or Phoebe so far. They were plentiful prior to last winter. I'm so sad. Tons of White-throated sparrows though.

I'm a little late cleaning out nest boxes for spring. I never know what I'm going to find so I like a nice cool day to slow down any wasps that may be lingering. Of 10 nest boxes, 4 had nests. Two bluebird and two chickadee nests. Not sure what kind of insect eggs I found. Let me know if you recognize them.
