At approximately 12:30 PM today, the Firefighter/EMTs of the Borough of Eddystone, in conjunction with the Eddystone Fire Company No. 1, officially placed a Lifepak 15 cardiac monitor, draw-up epinephrine, and DuoNeb into service as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s expanded Basic Life Support (BLS) protocols.

The Lifepak 15 will allow our Firefighter/EMTs to obtain and transmit 12-lead EKGs directly to Medical Command, enabling earlier interpretation of cardiac events and facilitating more advanced patient care. The addition of draw-up epinephrine will allow our providers to rapidly treat patients experiencing severe allergic reactions, while DuoNeb will enhance our ability to provide timely treatment to patients suffering from respiratory emergencies such as asthma and COPD exacerbations.

This milestone is the result of months of planning, coordination, and training involving our Firefighter/EMTs, Borough management, and the Eddystone Fire Company. After successfully completing the required education, competency training, and approval process, final authorization was granted by the Delaware County Emergency Health Services Council to place this equipment and medication into service. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to making this possible.

These additions represent a significant enhancement to the level of emergency medical care we can provide and further strengthen our commitment to serving the residents of Eddystone Borough and our surrounding communities whenever we are called upon.

This morning, shortly before 8:00 a.m., the Department was alerted for a vehicle fire just a short distance from the fire station on Industrial Highway Route 291.

Engine 12 responded with three career staff members and arrived to find the cab of a commercial vehicle well involved in fire. Crews quickly deployed a handline, brought the fire under control, and extinguished the blaze, preventing further extension.

Engine 12 returned to service a short time later after completing overhaul and ensuring the scene was safe.
