It's canning season! There are a few spots left in the Food Preservation class set for July 6, 2026 from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM at the Lyon County Extension Office. Call 270-388-2341 to register. The class is free and lunch is provided. This is a hands-on class but you will get to take home the fruits of your labor. Call by 4:30 PM on July 2, 2026 to register for the class.

4-H sewing retreat was a success! Young sewists learned parts of a sewing machine, how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, and were able to make a chapstick holder and a tote bag. Special shoutout to Homemaker, Cindy Kennedy, for her help at retreat!

Due to extensive plumbing issues the Lyon County Extension Office will be closed starting Thursday, February 19th and will re-open on Wednesday, February 25th. Staff is working remotely. Please feel free to email at [email protected].

Sunday afternoon sewing and Monday night sewing are not cancelled. We will meet in the large meeting room. Please use the front entrance of the building. See you then!

We had a great day making baskets with Wendy Tallis from Raintree Studios. Everyone finished their project just in time to fill it with snow day necessities, like chocolate! Like our page to learn more about all the things we do at the Lyon County Extension Office.

• Beginner Garment Sewing February (1, 8, 15, 22), 2026

Join me all four Sundays in February from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM to dig into garment sewing. We will learn how to read and use garment patterns and make a project that you can proudly wear. Spaces are limited for this class. The class is free, but you will need to purchase fabric and there could be pattern fees depending on your choices. To claim your spot in the class, call 270-388-2341. If you have your own sewing machine it is recommended to bring it with you. It is also suggested to bring basic sewing supplies such as thread, scissors, seam ripper, etc.
