Eden Prairie - City Government The official page for the City of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The City of Eden Prairie, Minn. Eden Prairie provides an ideal environment for living well.

has been recognized as a great place to work and raise a family for many years and is consistently ranked among MONEY magazine's "Best Places to Live." In 2010 MONEY magazine named Eden Prairie the #1 Best Place to Live in America, and the City has now occupied the top three spots on MONEY's list. Eden Prairie is located in close proximity to the Minneapolis – St. Paul metro area providing a perfe

ct balance of small town feel and big city amenities. The City received its name in the mid-1800s when it was considered a ‘garden spot’ in the newly developed Minnesota territory. Established in 1858, Eden Prairie remained a sleepy pastoral village until the mid-1900s when the additions of Flying Cloud Airport and Highway 494 put the City on the map, bringing thousands of homes and businesses to the area. Since then, the population of Eden Prairie has grown to more than 62,000 and the number of businesses has multiplied to more than 2,800. In addition to attractive residential neighborhoods and affordable housing options, the City boasts nearly 10,000 acres of land designated for parks and open spaces, miles of scenic views and a multitude of breathtaking lakes and beaches. With a multitude of award-winning restaurants, a super-regional shopping center, top-ranked schools and a myriad of entertainment and lifestyle options, it’s no wonder 90% of residents rate the quality of life in Eden Prairie well above average. Whether you come for a visit or stay for a lifetime, the City of Eden Prairie is a welcoming community with a thriving economy, and is truly a great place to Live, Work and Dream!

Firefighters 🤝 fishing

Last week, Eden Prairie firefighters teamed up with Parks and Recreation and Let's Go Fishing - Eden Prairie Area to take 16 kids out on Lake Riley for a fun day of fishing at the Hooks and Ladders event. Together, they caught more than 100 fish, including walleye, sunfish and bass! 🐟

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make Hooks and Ladders such a memorable day!

Seven awards, five 1st-place finishes and a whole lot to celebrate! 🏆🎉

The City of Eden Prairie had an outstanding showing at the Minnesota Association of Government Communicators (MAGC) Northern Lights Awards ceremony in July. The awards recognize the very best work by government communicators across the state.

At this week's City Council meeting, MAGC President Ari Lyksett presented the awards to the City, including three 1st-place awards for the "Life in the Prairie" newsletter and two 1st-place awards for the Eden Prairie Liquor "NAME THAT GUMMY!" campaign. The EPL "Little Berry on the Prairie" packaging design and Senior Center communications were also recognized with 2nd and 3rd-place awards.

In addition, Communications Manager Joyce Lorenz received the Scott Pengelly Lifetime Achievement Award — MAGC’s highest individual honor.

We’re grateful for the recognition, but what matters most is helping residents stay informed, engaged and connected to the community we serve.

🏆 For a fourth consecutive year, the Eden Prairie Community Center aquatics program has been recognized with the American Red Cross Training Services Recognition Award as a Top Training Provider in the nation. 🏆

The significant growth of our safety education program over the past few years has made it the top Red Cross training facility in the Midwest and one of the top 3 in the United States, with 75 safety courses available to teens and adults, including water safety, babysitting training, CPR, wilderness first aid and more.

In 2025, more than 665 participants from Minnesota and 12 other states earned safety certifications through the Community Center who are now equipped with the skills to respond in an emergency — whether performing CPR, assisting in the water, or staying calm and capable when it counts most.

💦 Congratulations to our Community Center staff 💦

Our pop-up splash pad event got an extra dose of fun thanks to a generous donation of soccer balls from United States Conference of Mayors and FIFA World Cup! We were excited to hand out some of the balls at this event last night at Nesbitt Preserve Park and look forward to handing out more at Harvest to Halloween on Oct. 10. ⚽

A huge thank you to both organizations for helping us share the joy of soccer and inspire young players throughout our community!

Our Arts in the Park artists are busy putting the finishing touches on their work and preparing for this weekend’s big event.

We didn’t want to interrupt the creative process, so we found a pad of paper and some markers.

Please enjoy this gallery of 100% human-generated originals: a lovingly drawn, mostly recognizable interpretation of what awaits you at Arts in the Park.

Then, make plans to join us Saturday to browse and shop artwork that we promise is so much better than these drawings.
